what are the differences in blades?

440 AUS8, AUS6, 440A, 440C, AST-34, AUS10?
I don't know what the pro's & con's are of each metal, can anyone ecplain? is there a BEST or are there a lot of trade-off's? any info(in laymans terms)would be apprieciated:)
 
There is an essay regarding the steels on the bladeforums. Click tutorials at the top of the page then look for knowledge base. You will find essyas on blade shape, grinds and steel
 
THANKS! great link:) i learned a lot from it. now i know which steel to choose for what project. i will definately be getting more SOG's. i think the next one might be the vision series. i really like the idea they consider us lefties:) that is what sold me on a SOG to start off with. now with all the good info, quality kniver, great customer service and forums, i think i will just for the MOST PART, stick to SOG:) THANKS!!!
