I got a new condor machete and it was an early production that has a coating flaw. My coating is flaking off. I don't want to send it back because I like the machete and I never realy liked the coating it came with anyways.

So what are my options if I strip it off and recoat it ? I need it to block rust and look cool! I I would prefer it to not be too shinny. And maybe something smooth so I will still cut smoothly and not be getting all hung up on the coating?

What do you guys recommend?

Coated machetes??? Madness!! Just hit it with some WD 40 after use and call it a day.

Someone on another thread mentioned a patina for the machete. What is that and would that be a good coating capeable of stopping rust?

Seriously, don't worry about rust on a machete. They're yard tools, I take slightly better care of mine than I do a shovel, and my tramontinas have lasted over 10 years with only a cracked wooden handle to show for it. Just oil it and the blade will darken a bit over time but will not rust (unless you leave it outside in the rain for a few days).
