What are the holes in this Tops knife used for?

A number of Tops knives have a slit and two holes on the back of the blade, forward of the jimping. Does anyone know what they are for? Thanks.

I bet that it's so tactical children site surfing in Mom 's basement, can dream of attaching the knife to a stick and battle zombies. ;)

"This really depends on the knife. Many of our knives have a dot dash dot pattern. This is Morse code for R "Roger" and helps to identify our brand on select knives. Depending on placement, some holes are meant to facilitate lashing your knife to a spear, tying on a lanyard, or for the balance of the knife."

I've never understood what 75% of the things designed into TOPS knives were for. IMHO so many of their designs are geared toward impressing someone who looks at knives more than uses them. Way too many mall ninjas in the mix for me, so the holes in the blades are just one more thing that has more looks than utility... who lashes a knife to a stick by the blade to begin with? If you use the very tip of the spear even, you've got what 2'' at most left sticking out as opposed to holes in a handle which seem to be a little more practical if the situation ever arose, especially considering if you lash using holes 1 inch apart, the stability is pretty crappy anyway. Sorry to hijack the thread, but gimmicks get on my nerves.

The holes are getting the right portion of dry spaghetti when cooking pasta for dinner: Like so~

Lash your knife to a stick to make a spear so that when the animal you stick it in takes off you no longer have a knife. Brilliant idea. Stupid me, I use the knife to sharpen the stick. :p

Hi, Thank you. I missed that in the FAQ's.

They're meant to give you something to grip when you choke up on the blade, think of how a chef pinches a knife when they chop. Problem is I can't think of a reason you'd grab a knife like that in a wilderness survival situation.

What I have mentioned before -- make spears of appropriate size of hardwood , harden the points with heat. Want a HT lesson for wood ??
Then you have a handful of spears and still have your knife !
