I think I'm ready to try out a Spydrco but I like all my folders to be A.O. so I'm hoping all you Spyderco freaks out there can help me out since it would take forever to check through all their models and even if I did find a few, I won't know how good they are. So please drop the name and any qualities/flaws you think are important.
Thanks

I'm hardly a Spyderco expert/historian, but I've never seen a Spyderco with AO. Maybe sometime in the past they dabbled with it, but I'm pretty positive that none of their current knives (aside from their restricted switch knives) are AO.

No AO comes to mind for spyderco but there is the Citedal line which is their auto line, thats about the best I can do atm. IIRC Sal said that he didn't want to take the company into the AO section of the knife world as he and kershaw had a good competitive friendship as it were. Ill see if i can find the post that says so.

It's called the Nadda, Nadda ever gonna happen.

Get a good manual knife. Like a lot of people who initially like assisted opening, I think you'll eventually find that you don't need it.

Doesn't spyderco have assisted rescue knives?...

Found this one: SPYDERCO C79PSOR, it's an assisted rescue oriented blade

Not sure if this is the only one aside from their auto models.

It's not assisted opening.
The name is Assist.

Spyderco's knives, once broken it, will fly out with ease. There is no reason you should need a/o on a Spyderco knife.

It didn't seem any of their stuff was a.o. and now I know for sure. thank guys. So what is a good starter in their lower price range with a 2-1/2 to 3 inch blade. Something under $70?

Any of the Delicas.
Or the UKPK if you want a slip-joint.:)
Just don't pay MSRP...you can ALWAYS find it cheaper.

My favorite Spyderco in that size and price range is the Native. Awesome ergonomics and super sharp tip. Had a desert tan one with USMC emblem on the blade that I used a good bit in Iraq and gave it to my father when I came home.

I'm checking a site with some right now and I'm leaning toward the Delica 4 , Endura 4, Resilience(not too keen on the 8cr13), or a UK Penknife 3 Titanium. Of course I'm most
attracted to the Junior in VG10, the Para 2 and the Gayle Bradley which are all well over my current budget. lol

The Delica 4 FFG is a great knife, but it's also one that's not easy to flick open quickly (at least at first).

I actually asked this before, and got a response from Sal himself. Spyderco has not made an AO, but they are designing a flipper opening knife. Their action is smooth enough to warrant not needing AO at all. The liner locks are super fast to flick, and the lockbacks would need a dangerously strong AO.

Get A Native, A UKPK, A Delica, An Endura, A Tenacious - Around 30 Bucks And Is A Great Knife, Or Grab A Manix 2, Manix 2's Are My Personal Favorite.
