This past fall I purchased the Buck 622 Endeavor fixed blade for use as a camping knife. I was pleased with it overall. I was just curious what you die hard Buck knife lovers opinions are of this particular blade?

IMHO, the long thin blade limits its uses. I like the 118 and/or the 105 for general knife use. Preston

its a fish knife right? should be fine for cleaning fish, food chores and light cutting tasks, but id prefer the 105 or 104 or bigger knife. something with more steel for harder cutting tasks while camping, myself.

It's slightly over 4" and has a combo blade. Yes it is good for cleaning fish but I also found it did well at general campsite duties. It's extremely sharp and holds the edge really well. Thanks for your responses. Keep em coming.

Did you mean the 224 Ulti-Mate and not the 226? The 224 has the 4" blade and the 226 has the 6.5". The handles are Kraton which is nice and grippy and has a nice molded nylon sheath that retains well. I have these in my fillet collection but have never used one. I expect the shorter and stiffer 224 would serve better than the longer and more flexi 226 or 229. I was always fond of the sheath. If you like it and meets your needs... nothing else matters.

Welcome Arti. Ok, I just searched back through 4 years of catalogs and found no 226 model. If you want a comment you'll have to post a photo. DM

Morning David.... these were older and can be found in the 2000 catalog. In the timeline they were between the original 123/125/127 series and before the Silver Creek line of fillets.

Ok, I Finally found it back in the 2007 catalog. It is one of the Mate Series. Gees! The 226 has a 6 1/2" blade. It's a filleting knife, I suppose you could use it around camp. I wouldn't. I would use it as a boning & filleting knife. The 4" model I'd use for camp duty. Of course we're unsure which he has and thus which one he wants us to discuss.
Thanks Desoto for giving us correct information on this. DM

Ok guys my apologies I guess I have dyslexia this morning its the 622 endeavor! Oops

Wish I didn't understand that problem. That would make an alright camp knife...much more suited than a 622. Preston

Man first time in the Buck forum and this is how your first impression of me is playing out! Haha[emoji38] At least I can laugh at myself and you guys haven't chased me out of here so I guess it could be worse. I could've come in praising clones![emoji850][emoji23]

Yeah... what everyone else said! I'll add that the 622 isn't the best filleting knife. :D

i like the walmart mesa version better with plain edge and micarta scales.

yeah that makes more sense on camp use now. the 622.......i was scratching my head on that fish fillet knife for awhile there....

I'm typically more of a plain edge guy myself but on the camp site is one place I like having the combo blade. I have plenty of folder to chose from for my plain edge carry. In fact of all my folders I believe only 2 have combo the test are all plain. I like micarta scales as well but I really do like the ones on here they're comfortable and grippy.
[emoji23] Yeah nobody solely buys a fish fillet knife as there go to camping knife! I guess you could fillet your firewood! [emoji23]

I don't have the 622, but I do have the 632 Mesa (Walmart) and the 104 Compadre Camp knife. They are all similar in size and shape and I think that size and shape is great. Not to long or short. Fits in the hand really nice. I think Buck hit the nail on the head with this pattern and I would be happy to see more variations. Any of these will make a fine camp knife.:thumbup:
