I am trying to figure out the implications and repercussions of the one millions hits at the Bladeforums site.
The first thing that came to mind is the continuous stirring of interest in knives. Second, would be the urge on at least two per cent of the "visitors" to buy at least one knife. Multiply that with the minimum amount of money spent, it would be a substantial figure.
Some knifemakers would invariably be made busier, if not richer by this process of interaction between lurkers, members and makers.
On the intangible side, perhaps there would be a greater understanding of this noble profession which has gone on for too long being little unnoticed and may be even unappreciated.
Friendships are made and cemented. The wonders of metallurgy uncovered. The knife per se seen from perspectives up till now undiscovered.
For some, it becomes a hobby, for the lesser mortals an obsession, for the wise a pleasurable pastime, for the novices a fascination.
I wonder if there is a negative side at all.....
