What are the pros & cons on the Buck Strider 889?

There really are not too many negatives about this one. I have only handled one with the taccom scales and it was a good solid folder for the money.

Personally, I prefer the similar one with the G10 scales (882sbtg), but finding one of those in plainedge is dang impossible. That is really too bad.

The other thing with a Strider/Buck is you have not one but two companies that will stand behind it.

Thumbs up from me.

How's the liner lock on it?

Mine is rock solid, I can't imagine what it would take to get it to slip. It will almost cut my thumb it takes so much pressure to push it over to close the blade.

The lock on my 882 sbtg is dead rock solid.

As I recall, the 889 I had was the same.

Does the black finish scratch easily?

Did you check out the link in post No. 2?

Blade coatings are blade coatings and will scratch, but that looked like it recovered pretty well.

I've got one an i love it. I've got the 889 in the brown. plain edge, great knife. the checkering is too sharp, fixed that, and it fails a spine whack test. still one of my favorite knives, look around for the best price they seem to vary a lot. later, ahgar

I purchased one a couple months back and I really enjoy it. I use it for my EDC abuser knife. The finish will scratch and show wear, but it is one tough knife. The liner is really stout, and mine does not fail a medium-hard whack test. I've never hit it with full force, but see no need to. I sanded down the handles some to make it a little smoother in and out of the pocket, but it still has plenty of grip. It is a lot heavier than the 172, but that is to be expected. One really great thing about this knife is that it is comfortable in many positions. It is a great user.

How does 420 HC compare to ats 34 and aus 8? Is the 889 steel heat treated by paul bos?
