What are the the scallops for on the Handle?

I'm curious what the scallops in the handle are for, on my Regular Large Sebenza.

That is your built in spring. The area is machined away. Then it is bent in to a certain point then tempered ( heat treated ) in that area creating the spring-like action. It has to be machined just right. Too thick and it will not work properly, too thin and it will break. This is Frame-Lock Design.
