What are the top TOUGH & THICK Folders out there?

I am thinking about getting one of the really, over built, thick bladed folding knives.
But I have not kept up on them, and dont really know which are the good ones to look for.

The Fulcrum is pretty much the only one I know of.

I want a nice strong folder, that I can do light pry work with, and not have to worry about breaking/bending it.

Any advise?
Thanks

I'll say that the 2 that I have owned that fit are:

Spyderco Chinook
Buck SBMF

Both are really heavy duty tanks!

Ontario Hossom Retribution or the Spyderco Chinook II:thumbup:

Either of those knives will laugh at your attempts to hurt them.:D

Spyderco's 83mm Manix has a thick leaf-shaped blade that ought to stand up to some "light" prying, although that certainly isn't the purpose of a knife. Also, Buck's Strider with a tanto blade might be worth looking at, as well as SOG's Tomcat II if they're still available.

Buck 110
Case Hammerhead
Schrade LB7
um...

Sorry, I was thinking along the lines of "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades"
;)

The BF moving service will come along and stick this thread somewhere else. No prob. :)

Jtice: good to see you branching out from candlepowerforums. :D

As for your query, the Chinook is solid, and is the Manix and mini-Manix (80mm Manix). Striders are beefy, but also costy at $400+.

I know this exceeds the scope of your inquiry, but consider also something like a small fixed blade with kydex belt holsters, i.e., Ontario RAT-3. I guarantee the pivot (there ain't one of course) not to break on that one.

If its small, light-duty prying you are after, consider a Prybaby (google it), or even just keeping a small prybar in your truck.

cheers

Well, while it's still here in Traditional, here is the Manix of trad folding hunters, the Kershaw 1050 Folding Field Knife:

Anyone else have one of these? I do -- it is one huge solid folding knife. Blade is flat ground 3/16 AUS8 drop point. Handle material is phenolic. They don't make these anymore but you can pick them up on ebay so I guess this is a legitimate response. :D

Thanks for the recommendations guys.

Yea, noddle, you will find me wondering around a few forums :p

Hm, this wasnt posted in the proper section?
I admit, I am not real aqainted with this forum and its sections yet.

All the knives mentioned are very nice.
Some, not quit as beafy as I was looking for.

I have a Ranger RD9, Excellent knife,
and was thinking of getting a shorter version,
or one of the Rats.

I used the Benchmade Nimravus in M2 steel as my main fixed blade.
And a Benchmade 710 M2 steel folder as EDC.
Both have never failed me,
I just like the idea of the super thick blades.
But never really saw alot of THICK bladed folders out there.

So far, I like the Bucks, they are much better priced than the Striders. SHEESH.
How thick are the blades though? cant seem to find that.

Hi jtice:

I'd have to add two, one in keeping with the Trad nature of this forum:

Trad = Queen Mountain Man

Non-trad = Extrema Ratio Fulcrum Folder

Best regards:
