Can one get an ATS-34 or S30V blade replacement for a 112 Ranger? Are there any other blade upgrade options available for the 112 Ranger?

Thanks for your time. The Buck Knives site doesn't seem to mention the blade replacement options (which means that I either couldn't find them, or they aren't available on the web site...).

A while back I was able to get the shop to make about 100 blades for the 112 in BG-42. They were for blade swaps and most are gone now. We never did any other blade steel types to my knowledge although that does not sound like a bad idea.
I am hopeing to be able to offer the blade swaps again in the next couple of months. We are still digging our way out of a backlog in the repairs department.

Thanks Joe, for a fast, exact answer!

So, you said that "most" (I bolded it) of the 112 Ranger's BG-42 blades are gone. There's a gent in the Blade Discussion Forum that's just bought a 112FG, saying that, by buying it "I did'nt follow any of the advice I usually give to others about knives." and that "It really is a wonderful knife--if it had better blade-steel it would be nearly perfect."

If there are any of those 112 Ranger swap blades still around, you could probably talk that gent into getting one.

(Sorry for cross-connecting threads, I don't know if the guy wanting a better blade steel knows about the Buck forums, so I figured I'd ask his [unasked] question here...)

I would send a couple of older 422s in for upgraded blades, but I'm also sensitive to the backlog they much have after the move, so I'm willing to wait until Joe sounds the all-clear, even if they have some extras lying around.

Joe, I sent you an email last Friday regarding swapping to a BG-42 blade on my 112. It sounds like it will be some time before that part of your operation is fully functional again. I really do want to get a BG-42, and it sounds like I'm not alone, any chance on producing even a limited run of these blades so that when the custom operation is running again they'd be ready to go?
You guys changed a 110 and a 560 to BG-42 for me and now I'm hooked!
Thanks, Bob

GeoThorn,
Thanks for asking the questions.
And you're right, I could be talked in to getting a 112FG with better blade-steel--in fact, I would buy two if the price was right.

Thanks again,
Allen.

I did the BG-42 blade swap with an old 112, and it was a great price, too. If there are any blades left, I highly recommend it.

This was a $15 Buy It Now beater that I got off of e-Bay. Joe and the crew made it like new again. Heck, better than new with the BG-42 steel. :D
