What are they?

Same size as BM 30, but all hidden pins, drop point hollow grind, just under 1/8" thick blade, a butterfly logo, and a patent number 4,364,174, five hole stainless skeleton handle is a...? AND
Same as above except heavier handles with beefier latch and heavier overall, BALI-SONG U.S.A., and the unfortunate part is that at least two owners ago someone thought they could grind an "improvement" to the blade, so I don't know what it should look like. There is a swedge of sorts (looks like factory at the plunge), so it could have been an early type of weehawk, or perhaps a weehawk tanto, although there is no tanto shape in it's present form. Blade is 3/16" thick. The kick sticks out at an angle more steeply than most I have seen. I realize they are both Benchmade predecessors, but which models? Thanks.

The first one you said sounds exactly like a Pacific Cutlery model 68. It is a semi-custom. They're real nice. The other one, I don't know.

I agree blade 420 and Chung San (thank you), I think the first one is a PC 68 (in very good condition). The second one (BALI-SONG) looks like it probably had a blade just like the green micarta beauty in Chuck's vault, only with big, heavy skeletonized SS handles in the classic hole pattern. Too bad someone butchered the sharpening on it. Got both for well under a "bill", so can't complain.

The second knife sounds like a rare 3" custom, with the 3/16" blade and all. They have the same dimensions as the other customs but are just shorter. Sounds like quite a find for "under a bill"!

Thanks Dawkind for the information. I think you may be right about it being a custom. I did well on the price, but if you could see the butchery of the blade, for who knows what reason (looks like a well used fish fillet knife), well, it could bring a tear to a bali collector's eye. The only old Benchmades and their predecessors that I have are three inchers, but don't the 45s have a thick handle? This one is 1/2" by 5/8" on the latch end; kind of like a 3" BM45 maybe, as I think you are suggesting. It came with a horizontal sheath with two belt snap loops, no logo. When I get a camera and figure out how to, I'll post a picture.

I'm sorry to say that the 40 series, ie., 42, 43, 44, 45, 47, and the 48 have the same size handles except for the additional length on the titanium handled knives for the latch gate. I hate to tell you but, with those dimensions for handle stock, I'm 99% sure you've got a very rare 3" custom, or what's left of one........:(.... The previous owner must have thought the blade a little too stout for a 3" knife. As you can see from this photo, the 3" has the same materials used to make it as the 4" and 5" knives. I got this set from a collector in a trade and it's the only 3" I've ever had, seen, or had the chance to get!

BalisongMan,
I sent you a scan, even though I'm keeping the custom. What's in the picture--a sand blasted 68? and a...

I got the scan too, but it won't let me upload it for some reason. I'll try it directly.

The first one is a PC68 the second one is a BM30
the third one looks thicker, and was probably a custom, but someone has commited sacrelige!!!!!!

I'm very sorry for the condition of that blade, but if you got both that and the 68 for under $100.00, then you still got a deal.

Thanks for posting that. I guess I could have sent a smaller image. Yeah, it was a good price, but of all the balis to get butchered, it would have to be one of the rarest. If Dawkind says he's only seen one, you know it's rare.
I worded it poorly, but was wondering what the pieces in your picture are.

Oh dear God...

That knife is so sad.:(

It's unique though. Maybe you can look at it as a custom ground blade. Sort of?

Whatever. A knife is a knife.

The two knives pictured from S.'s website are a custom bead-blasted 3" WeeHawk and what's got to be one of the neatest custom 3" stiletto's I ever did see! The knife you've got used to look like the one in my set which is the same as the 'blasted knife, except for the finish. It is a cryin' shame.......:( :barf:
