Hi Spark,

Great to see you post here.

All of the products to be released in 2000 were introduced at the SHOT Show and will be in production at various points throughout the year.

Steel: BG-42 is the next steel we will be working with. Being a "high tech" company, we believe BG-42 fits that profile and will likely be using that on new models in the future. Our Research and Development Department is always working with new materials...so who knows.

Mulit-Tool: Check out our new SwitchPlier! A muli-tool with a plier head which pops opens like a switch blade! Truly amazing and on the cutting edge.

Also new, a tactical fixed blade called the X-42 Recondo (with BG-42), additions to the AutoClip series called the X42 AutoClip (coming in varying blade length and with and without serrations) with BG-42 and tanto blade, new additions to the Vision family, another traditional Vietnam fighter (to partner with the SOG Bowie), a credit card sized knife called the AccessCard, and even the Vino, SOG's entry into the Wine bottle opening business.

Check out our web site! Great things are coming.

Ron,
can you tell me how does SOG explain the fact that the access card is a blunt copy of the spydercard by SPYDERCO.
to tell you the truth that is something i would have expected from "DOUBLE FLYING DRAGONS" out of china rather then a firm as respectable as SOG.
just my 2 cents.
scorpio.

Scorpio -- I don't think SOG is ripping off Spyderco. They are both card knives, but the idea has been floating around for a while. Other companies have made credit card-style "tools" w/knives, Spyderco's design was a logical extension of those. Spyderco deserves credit for introducing a lot of great features, and may be the first to introduce a knife of this kind, but they don't solely own the idea. Has everyone who has made a multi-tool after Leatherman also rip-off artists?

The Access card appears to use a different lock and opening mechanism, and the blade and "handle" design are quite different from the Spydercard. There will be a big enough market for both, and both will surely be challenged by those "knock-offs" from "Double Flying Dragons" and the rest. Until other quality models emerge, though, I suspect Spyderco and SOG may share the high-end of the market.

My .02 --
Glen

Hi Scorpio,

Though I don't have the inside scoop for you on the AccessCard, Glen ("Storyville") is right. Many ideas have been out there for quite some time in many different variations. It is possible for one company to have something under design while another company rushes the same idea to market faster. Also, like the multi-tool market, variations to hopefully improve on a great idea are plentiful.

Thanks for your question.

Achemm..... let's not forget about the credit card multitool that was out way before anything. Yeah, Spydercos are good, but so are many other knives that have looked like credit cards in the past. In fact, I even saw a mini fork/knife set in the shape of a credit card once. Anyway, SOG's card looks good. I'm sure the quality will be awesome.
