I fired up my smoker this morning and threw a 13 lbs turkey on it. I rub butter, salt, and pepper between the skin and breast. I also am using a turkey stand similar to a "beer butt chicken" stand. I have been told it will cook faster since it opens up the middle and allows it to cook more evenly from both sides. As you can see I'm trying to dry out some wood that got rained on!

I started "Breakfast at Grandpa's" several years back. Everyone comes over at 9:30 in PJ's and robes. We sit around the downstairs and eat breakfast while exchanging gifts and having a great Christmas morning like we all remember from when were all kids. By noon, everyone is gone to see other family and friends, and Judy and I get to put our feet up for the day just chilling out and relaxing.
This year it was a record temperature for the 24th and 25th. At 82° on Christmas eve was the hottest day ever in December in Norfolk, VA. It was still 73° at 5AM Christmas morning. It went up to 80° by noon. We ran the AC instead of the usual crackling fire in the fireplace. By 11AM, everyone was sitting out on the deck enjoying summer weather.

For this year the spread was:
Mimosas and Greyhounds
Bagels with several cheese spreads and smoked trout/salmon/mullet
Three types of Danish pastries
Apple Strudel
A big fruit platter with melons, pineapple, berries, grapes, apples, etc.
Nuts, Christmas snacks/breads/cookies, a little fudge and some candies
Normally, I do a couple of hearty breakfast casseroles and a lot of applewood smoked bacon - but with the hot weather, I decided the cooler food would be more welcome.
Not one person had a hot cup of coffee or cocoa, but we went through three bottles of Prosecco, a gallon of OJ, and a lot of Perrier.

I'm coming to your house next year, what a spread! The turkey turned out great. It was 76 hear. I enjoy smoking a lot better when it is cold and clear instead of hot and raining. My wife made a French toast casserole thing with pecans and stuff on top that was awesome.

White Christmas here. About 2" of snow. Did 13lbs of prime rib. Came out great.
