What are you all working on now??

I'm working on a small tanto. Will be what I call a Black and Tan, which has a black cordwrap over an underwrap of tan hemp cord. Kind of organic, a softer, nicer feel, I guess. Something different if nothing else. Next planned knife is a "bushcraft" type of knife in the style of Bark River's Northstar or Allen Blade's PackPal.

Current problems:
1) My steel is the killer of all drill bits. Don't know how to hand-sharpen, don't want to put $$$ into a Drill Doctor, but I go through one 1/8" cobalt bit for every two holes.
2) Inadequate heat source for HT'ing, so I need to build a little forge. That's probably my priority.
3) Still learning how to grind on my Coote. I have the basic principles down, but I suck.

workin
on a few neck knives
probs
kiln wolnt be here till next week at best
making a part or to for my 1x42 grinder to help flat grind
going to HF to look for a 12 or 20 ton press

I am working on about 4 custom sized Companions and 2 large camp knives.
One Med sizs 2.5" wide camp knife and a 5" "Combat" knife like the one I made for the soldier knife projest.

Not to mention finishing a GoodeWilliams skinner design. More on that later.

But first I have to make a custom sheath for a Tops Tracker and finish a custom bowie type knife and sheath.

Did I say make sheaths? Oh no not again........sheaths! Got to love them when there done though :D

Good! That gives the rest of us some time to catch up! :D

My main struggle is getting time in the shop when I'm not dead wore out right now :grumpy:
I've got one folder roughed out, ready for hand fitting on the lock. 2 pocket fixed blades cut out. A 4 inch tactical fixed blade cut out and half ground.
All need fileworked with my mark, and some need decorative filework as well.
My dad and I are also building a display case for the medals my grandpa earned in WWII.
I'd like to get in the shop and just knock stuff out like crazy with this niceweather we've been having but, spring quarter of school just started, the horseshow season just started, and we've got a ton of work around the yard/barn to take care of too. Thats partly why I've got so many knives in progress. Every time I get in the shop I'm too tired to take on any detail work, so I just rough another one out.
We finally got the yard cleaned up for spring. I spent 3 days welding a busted up mower deck back together. Been making some headway with all the horses. Homework on occasion. And then just when you think you can chill out for a minute...**** like this happens : http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=342165 Never a dull moment!
I've got half notion to just call it a day and go to bed now though

Cripes I just looked over my order list yesterday and I'm way behind! Got a couple Cratchetts due in two weeks and haven't even put a finish on the blades yet. Then a Scagle repro by end of June - those are the only ones with dates on em. But man the list is way too long! There are several projects I want to work on just for grins - why else start this in the first place if you can't make what you want to - but they just keep getting pushed back because I can't say "No."

Not to mention I want to do some "woodworking" with Micarta. Someone's thread the other night got me thinking again about my dream to build a tool chest (a "knife collection chest") with a bunch of little drawers out of Micarta and that just won't leave me alone...

Tonight I finished up a double edged three-quarter sized Arashi tanto for a buddy of mine, and it turned out pretty nice. Has a kind of "Bud Nealy" look, which I like on this one. I used Micarta pins in the Micarta handle and like it a lot. Very simple and mean looking. Charlie's gonna like it too. :D

Problems? Not me! Opportunities! Yeah, that's the ticket - "opportunities." Sheesh. Aside from not having the energy of people like Brian and Matt, I'm in good shape. If all I had to do was make stuff I'd be in hog heaven but that just doesn't pay the bills. So off to bed and off to work tomorrow I go.

lets see today :I finished ground 5 hunters, 2 bowies, and thought of guarding a dagger. Assembled 2 folders( no bolsters or handles). Designed a 4 inch folder with a recurve blade and cut out rough blanks. Had to reHT a hunter, Ordered mega belts for grinding. Trying to get more knives for Novi show, and preping for the blade show. Had to put off orders till may so I can concentrate on shows. Now that I have a stockpile of blades the problem is what to handle them with. :grumpy:
