Just curious. First my mom wanted a Karaoke Machine, then a new refrigerator, now she says she doesn't want either. She has no hobbies at all, other than her three cats. I figure since you guys know about cool knives, tools, flashlights, etc., maybe you have some good gift ideas for the holidays?

You could get her one of those cat towers-two or thress soties of climbing and scratching fun for the cats.
Also saves wear and tear on the furniture.

You could get her a laser pointer so she can watch the cats chase the red dot. :D

My wife uploaded a bunch of family pictures to Shutterfly and they made a really nice photo album with them. It has a hard 8 1/2" by 11" hard decorative cover and overall is very well done. A gift she will never forget. Unfortunately, with shipping time involved, it may be a little too late this year for you.

My mom is 85 years old, still living alone independently on the old home place. She has all the knick-knacks, family pictures, etc., she can use, and we keep her in clothing through gifts throughout the year. She lives on a small pension and Social Security, and is so fiercely independent that she absolutely refuses most monetary help that we try to give her. So about the only way I can get her to accept money is to make it a Christmas or birthday gift.

So, she will get a substantial cash gift this Christmas, as has been our practice for several years now. My handicapped daughter also makes cards and gifts or her, and she always loves these.

My mom doesn't celebrate Christmas anymore. She used to love to decorate and enjoy all the associated festivities. Her husband has convinced her that it is a "Pagan" holiday so she gave away all of her Christmas stuff and now won't even come visit for Christmas. But she'll come visit for the Holidays!

Anyway, I recently sent her a little Spyderco Ladybug because she was using kitchen knives as letter openers, etc. She was SOOOOO excited when she got her "little knife" and said she is ready to knife anybody who walks by (husband and grandson). Too funny. Oh, btw, she is 78 years old.

This is her very first knife and she keeps it in her left jean's pocket and she just loves it. It's small and sharp and not too large of a knife for her to handle. I have sent a gazillion reminders to be careful because the edge is very sharp.

That's what I did. She always enjoys receiving money, too. She has a special little spot in her wallet where she keeps her "mad money" that she spends just on herself (money her kids have sent her).

I built a computer for my mother this year. Nothing fancy or expensive, but her Windows 95 laptop is on it's last leg and she likes to use the internet and get e-mail from her brothers and sisters. One of my brothers is kicking in a monitor and I think the other is getting her a printer.

In the past I've given her a GPS, truck accessories, a pocket knife, and gift certificates for bookstores.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

Well, let's see. . .

I got my mom three bottles of a conditioner that she favors (long discontinued and hard to find.)

A half ounce of saffron (gave here that one early for the sake of holiday cooking,)

and a video game (Pilot Wings 64. My mom rocks. . .)

I just have to say "Thank God for my wife!" Because when it comes to buying gifts for Mom (and any other family members!), my wife is the "Gift Guru". One sister and brother-in-law have offered to pay my wife to do their Christmas shopping for them before...

So, what am I giving my Mother? I have no idea! But thankfully, my wife has taken care of it!

Box of See's candies, Estee Lauder makeup and a bottle of Glenlivet 12. She's 85 and enjoy's the simple things.

I'll be remembering all the great Christmases we had while she was alive. Those memories are her everlasting gift to me and my reliving and cherishing them are my gift to her.

My Mom is like my Dad , they have everything and want nothing.

So I got her what she digs , a bunch of those fancy candles that smell like stuff women like. :D

I usually get her gift cards at Loews because she usually has a project or home repair in mind but this year, because of the fact that she has one great grandchild and another on the way in a couple weeks,I got her a digital picture frame that takes an SD card and plays a slide show so everybody can give her pictures.Of course,I'll be the one who will also do the updating of the SD card to go with it.

I made my Ma a few things using decorative knots and 2mm cord. An Ocean Plait hair barrette, monkey's fist necklace, and monkey's fist earrings. Just something different than the usual lanyards and fobs I've made for knives and such.
