Here's a quick vid of what I wear when I'm in the great outdoors... What do you think?

A Columbia ''up\downer''. People in town think that it looks goofy and some seem to get a giggle out of it, but it saves my neck\ears from sun burn all the time. I had a woman who's husband runs a landscaping business ask me were I got it.

I use a Columbia or Guy Harvey long bill ball cap, with an attached neck shade. If I know it's gonna rain, I wear a OR Seattle Sombrero.

My Boston Red Sox ball cap, a bandanna, or my north face head scarf in colder weather. I don't really worry too much about sun because most of the places I go are heavily wooded, and if I'm going to be on a lake, river, pond, etc. for long periods of time where I think I'll get too much sun then I sunscreen up. Other than that I soak up the rays and work on my tan haha. Oakley half jacket sunglasses for eye protection are always nice too.

A classic Panama for the summer. It is light weight, provides adequate shade and allows enough air circulation to keep my head from sweating.

i have several hats depending on season. I have a tilley th5 (very light, packable), filson packer tin cloth (heavy, still packable), an akubra something, don't remember.
and a couple hats in the belfry straw hats.
when your hair is thinning, you start buying hats loll.

Still the same linen boonie with wired brim. Lowe Alpine Gore-Tex when it rains hard. Going strong, and I still don't anticipate change any time soon.

Original or UV Buff and/or:
-Nike breathable golf cap: for when I want a brim. Also worn in wet weather under poncho or rain jacket's hood, to keep rain out of my face.
-Columbia Bora Bora Booney: for extensive exposure to direct sun, particularly on the water.
-UnderArmour Arctic Beanie II: for below freezing in camp, hiking in the teens, sleeping when pushing the temp limits of a sleeping bag with layers.
Other headgear:
-Native Eyewear polarized sunglasses: any time the sun is shining, except maybe hiking under heavy tree cover, and usually even then.
-S2S headnet: for when the gnats or mosquitoes are really bad(always when night hiking in warm weather).
-Headlamp: Zebralight H30W for backpacking and general use, Surefire Minimus Vision for "serious" use(planned night hiking, etc)
-Petzl Elios: hybrid helmet for some stuff that I dabble, or want to dabble, in.

I generally wear a Bass Pro Shop long brimmed ball cap style of hat for fishing and day hikes. Wear different stuff kayaking and have a gortex cap that gets use in potentially rainy weather. I think the boonie hats look goofy on me.

In the summer I dont always wear a hat. If I know I will be out in direct sun for a long time I wear a boonie hat. When things cool down i wear a wool cap under a windproof shell. When things cool down even more I wear a ushanka. When it is cold as hell I wear a thick wool cap or balaclava under an insulated down hood with a fur trim. All through the winter a spare balaclava lives in my left hand jacket pocket.

I bounce between a Becker Knife & Tool hat or a Hero hat, either way they're American made ball caps. I also have some of my leftover boonie covers from the Marine Corps.

I'm going to grab a plain black wool military Beret when I find one that fits. I have some kind of OJ Simpson pumpkin head or something. XXL motorcycle helmet.

Boonie hat and/or bandana in the warmer weather. insulated hunting cap/watch cap in the winter. Cool Idea on the survival hat.

< does not apply

even though i go through random phases where i think i will start wearing hats i never actually do

In the warmer months I wear a French-pattern pith helmet made of genuine sola pith. Soak it in water and it soaks it up like a sponge. Keeps you cool for hours via evaporative cooling. :)

I'm currently in the market for a summer hat. Think I may see if there are any sales in a month. For the rest of the year I wear a ball cap. Ball caps work really well with the hoods on rain coats. I live in Oregon. :D
