What are your goals?

Recently, I've sort of run into a set of circumstances which've forced me to reassess my (young) life, and the direction it's taking. I found that I'd lost much of my former ambition, and need to do a little more of the whole grabbing life by the horns thing.

So. Here a few short-term goals that are intended to help get myself off of my ass (rather literally). It definitely helps to put stuff down in writing.

- Get back in school, move out. Probably the most important at the moment.
- Get back in shape, lose approx. 10-15kg (dunno how much weight my frame is actually capable of losing).
- Build the bankroll to so I'm properly rolled for $3/$6 limit hold 'em (1,000 big bets) plus $4k for hitting up casinos (total effective bankroll of approx. $10k at all times).
- Put 6 months living costs in the bank.
- Toughen up mentally for the work.

What sort of stuff are you guys working on? Be interesting to see what kinds of goals people have at different stages in their life.

See that? One guy focuses on REALITY, and the other focuses on THINGS THAT MATTER MOST! :D

May you both live long and prosper!

...Okay, you do have a point. That other stuff could wait for a week. If I could make it to Blade Show, just once. ;)

Get my driving, motorcycle, and work permit.

Get a job.

Learn to weave a bead (MIG)

Get certified, in a the next few years in MIG welding.

Take over the world.

Looking for a way out of the city and into the middle of nowhere. After that emigrating to Australia or NZ.

Being retired, I have one major goal left in life. I want to see my 24 year old daughter able to live independently. (Hit and run victim with brain stem damage. Not supposed to be alive, then supposed to be in a coma or a permanent vegetative state. Cannot walk or talk, but does all of her mormal personal and household functions by herself. Toughest little person I have ever known.) All of my time and activities are directed toward this goal at present.

:)

My goals, in no particular order:

-Find a new job and prove to them that I can do anything and they don't know what they ever did without me. ;)

-Pay off bills, credit cards, etc.

-Stay sober and keep reading and doing things that makes me feel better when I'm depressed, instead of taking the easy-but-not-really-easy way out by drowning out my depression.

-Work out more and EAT, but healthfully.

-Get back into some kind of art, whether painting furniture, painting watercolors, making "crafts" or anything that I used to like to do but have gotten out of the habit of doing.

-Illustrate a children's book (my boyfriend and I want to collaborate on this; he'll write it if I'll illustrate it) and eventually get it published. This might be combined with the above goal.

-Call my newly-pregnant sister at least twice a week, even though she doesn't ever call me, and try to get back at least a bit of the closeness we used to have.

-Let go of my anger, especially at my father, and forgive people for being insensitive. (I changed that word, "insensitive", about four times before settling on that one!)

sph3ric pyramid, Thanks for the thread. I like things that make me think, and this one is somewhat therapeutic. :)

At 50 years old, I'm preparing to leave a mostly physical job to one less physical. Each winter (starting three years ago) I take a self-study computer course. This year I'm doing network engineering and am lucky enough I can transition,to a degree, right at the job I'm on now. My body should hold out another 5-10 years...I hope ;)

Sorry I can't help myself :)

- Get gym #2 up and have a positive cash flow by January 1
- Be ready for my forst WPO/Pro-Powerlifting meet Nov 12. (I need to drop a weight class, about 15 pounds)
- Get good and drunk in Chiacgo after my meet.
- Get selected as a judge for the 2006 Special Olympics World Games in Beijing. (should know mid-October)
- And that take over the world thing Underage mentioned

My goals involve two major things in my life...My artwork (blacksmithing and copper-work), and my job. My artwork is a big part of who I consider myself (metalworker). My job is what pays the basic bills and funds my IRA (and is a source of scrap material for my blacksmithing). My artwork is what de-stresses me from my job, and allows me emotional and financial stability in life. While I am very close to being able to live without my job, it is a bit more of a starving artist existence than I care to live. With my goals, I hope to eventually change that....

Short-Term Goals (now to next year or two):

- Figure out everything I can about the 2 dimensional CNC machines, I will be operating at work, in the only nine days training I'll be given.
-Take more CNC classes.

-Jury into the large local ren-faire or a number of high-end craft fairs with my copper-work and/or blacksmithing.
-Have 3-5 galleries selling my copperwork and blacksmithing on a consistant basis.

Medium-Term Goals (2-5 years):

- Using my current job and the classes I'll be taking, move to progressively better CNC positions.

- Start teaching copper-working and blacksmithing.
- Expand the galleries selling my work to some in both south and southwestern states.

Long-term goals(5-10 yrs):

- Have the experience in my job to be able to look at part-time or consulting positions in other states.

- Have the ability in selling my artwork and teaching experience, to look around and find a wonderfully appropriate "tourist trap" in the south or southwest (Gatlinburg, TN or Sedona, AZ come to mind) to open a Studio. (At which time another whole batch of short, medium and long-term goals will need to be set based on this decision.)

The wonderful thing about setting goals is they are stable enough to stay on-track in life, but are flexible based on our interests and needs.

#1-Find a job that allows me to pay off my bills AND still be able to live comfortably.

#2-Find the time and money to allow me to start making knives.

#3-Make it to Blade Show next year.

#4-Finish raising my parents so they stop acting like 4 yr olds toward each other

#5-Write a book.

MikeH, I wish you all the luck with your goal. I think if some of us were in your daughter's position for even one hour, would realize that we really don't have anything to complain about.
