Knives? I just won a Sowbelly stockman on ebay. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

I remember when they first came around years ago. I think they're great knives. Worth what they go for now? You would have to decide yourself. I havent seen any for sale in a long time. Anyone know what they've been going for?

Which Sowbelly did you get? Was it the Northwest Logger? A 3 bladed brown bone?

I personally think Cripple Creeks are some of the best made knives out there. Lately I've been I have been seaching for Bob Cargill"s pamphlets he put out to tribe members called, "Smoke Signals". I have photocopies of the 1st,2nd and the 3rd and 4th quarters were combined. I would love to buy the originals for my growing collection of Cripple Creeks. If any of you have info on were I might be able to pick some up. It would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,

Hi guys,
I have a question that may be a little stupid but I'm asking anyway.

I always see Cripple Creeks for sale (ebay) that look to be non Cargill type work but are marked correctly. Did someone (like Jim Parker) ever pick up the rights to his name? meaning, were there Cripple Creeks made by someone other than Bob Cargill?

I'm curious if anyone knows anything about this?

Raptor, there is nothing stupid about your question. Part of the charm of knife collecting is discovering who made what while they owned the name. Or highjacked the name in some cases.

So you can find a Marbles safety folder by Parker, which might sell for $20, or you can find an original one which may sell for $1000, or a modern made knife of the same pattern by Marbles for some price between the two.

You are correct. There are certain Cripple Creeks that sell frequently on Ebay for $30-$40. Then there are Bob Cargill Cripple Creeks (bench)Made knives that sell for much more. And finally, there are some great one of a kind custom Cargills out there.

Check out the link in my first post, and let Bob tell you the story in his own words. According to my Levine's Guide, 4th edition, the 93-95 Cripple Creeks were made by Blackjack.

Does this one look familiar? I found this just a short while ago. Someone had blackend the blade with some sort of substance. I am in the process of cleaning it up to it's original state.
Shay, the Northwest Logger knife that you just got is a great one to have in a collection. I see the you got it with the wooden box and cloth sack that came with those knives. A lot of them being sold don't have those to go with the knife. Good score !!!

Here is a picture of the 1st ten Cripple Creek patterns Known as the Ten Little Indians. This is what a 1981 dealer set looked like. Needless to say, many other patterns were made after these.

Shay. Here is the whittler we were talking about. This guy has 3 backsprings. One for each blade.
