What belts do you guys use for your infi?

After hand convexing a few blades I have finally decided to move up to a belt grinder. 230's HDR pictures have also driven the final nail in to making the decision. I'm ready to put a proper edge on my blades.

I have a kalamazoo on the way, but I'm trying to hunt down 1" x 42" belts. The lower grit stuff and the leather belts aren't that hard to find, but it seems like 600 grit+ is a real PITA to find.

Does anybody have some decent links to some good sources.

supergrit and leevalley too.

I set the initial bevel with an 80 grit (don't do that)

After that, 220, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 15 micron, and various stropping belts with different compounds.

I thought this was about a carrying system too.

As to the sanding belt, I don't use them but I do use a 320 rpm sanding disc as the need arises, which isn't too often since they all work as designed. I've convexed less than I can count on one hand out of all of mine so far. I'll probably be getting an edge pro soon so I can maintain the factory edge easier.

Belts... yeah I can see why this thread has been misinterpreted. I've got a one track mind at the moment.

As to the Wilderness belts, they rock. I've already got a couple.:D

I take it the 80 grit is a bit aggressive and you need some experience before using it?

80 grit is quite aggressive, for sharpening IMO, and if you slip up your knife is going to be screwed up. You're much better off spending more time in the 400 range as any mistake you make isn't going to be as noticeable.

I was thinking about starting with some old machetes and old knives with the 80 way before I start with the infi, but I will start with 400 on my Busses.

Thank you for the tip.

I just ordered 6 belts from trugrit on Monday. I think it was about $12 and I got the package yesterday, shipped free USPS Priority! I haven't even opened the package yet but that's a great deal. I plan on doing some sharpening this weekend.

-They have a leather strop for about $20.
