So this knife belongs to a friend of mine, he found it in a parking lot. We are trying to figure out the model, blade steel and when it may have been made. I'm sure the knowledgeable folks here on the forum can help. Thanks in advance. Btw it says Elishewhits on the blade but Idk if that's the model.

That's an old Benchmade 875 Sentinel, probably made around '96-'98, and ATS-34 blade steel.

I would put up fliers in the area where he found it. That is someones old trusted friend. There are likely a lot of stories between that knife and it's owner. If I had a steady user for almost 20 years, I would be beside myself if I lost it.

Forget about making a few bucks, that thing is beat up. It has lived a hard life and it shows, so it probably isn't worth much to anyone that knows about knives, and less to someone that doesn't. It should be returned to the owner with the edge and pivot untouched.

ETA: I wouldn't want to keep it. I just wouldn't feel comfortable knowing I was using someone's treasured knife, and I didn't earn it myself... Who knows, the person might be a member on here, or someone that you cross paths with regularly. Now you might have someone to talk knives with.

I would rather know a friendly/thankful person than have a beaten on knife.

Make the fliers very vague, say something like:

Knife found in lot on ****day/night. Call to claim.
- Be prepared to describe the knife to prove ownership.

Ask them what make/brand it is.
If any colors are on it, if so, how and where.
If it locks, how so.
Does it have any issues or noticeable marks (like the worn ring around the back bolt).

Things like this would be a dead giveaway of true ownership, and not just someone trying to capitalize on someone doing a good deed.

I'd want someone to try to get a knife like that back to me. Up to you ultimately, but its a little different than finding a generic truck stop knife, or even a new but replaceable one. That's seen some mileage.

Unfortunately it's not going to make it back to Its original owner. He found the knife several years and I don't know if he tried to return it. We were talking knives and this one came up so I told him I'd try and get some info on for him. I wish he would have found the owner, I lost a sog flash 2 that I had for 12 years and it broke my heart a little.

But thanks for the information I'll let him know what's he's got.

That's a shame... I am sure someone was quite beat up over the loss of it.

It is a shame, to us it is a well used knife, but it could have been priceless to the original owner. I found an old rusty beat up vintage 3 bladed Old Timer folder at work a couple years ago. I did the right thing and turned it in so the owner could come in and claim it. I found out that it was a knife his dad gave him before he died.
