What Benchmade is this?

I was browsing eBay, and came across this.

The eBay listing says it's a limited edition, but usually Benchmade's limited editions are nicer versions of production knives. I really like the blade style and handle shape. It looks like a souped up Griptilian with an aluminum handle (which it may be).

Isn't that a special run due to color/coating combination and blade material.

I thought BM stopped regular production prior ro D2 being widely used accross the line of production knives.

Does anyone know if the original of this knife is available anywhere? I really like the blade profile, but could do without the serrations or blade coating.

It was not made by Benchmade. Those are limited runs, some what like a feeler. I assume that BM will bring back the 72x series with the drop point blade profile in D2 plus the various options. I hope soon.

Wait, if you are talking about the bowie bladed run then they are hard to find. Ebay I believe is your best bet.

One more thing. The original comes in G-10 was well. I would recommend that if you are right handed you search around for the aluminum handles with the black Benchmade logo. The butterfly is CNCed into the handle. Nice stuff.

the original 720 series was discontinued. these were a special limited run available in only coated combo edge. there is some speculation that they may bring back the 720's in some form but i have heard nothing conclusive on the BM forums.
