Something forged like 52100.

I'm with you Gus! Two of my favorites are a forged 52100 DDR EDC and an Ed Caffrey Progression II. Good stuff and very cool to the eye as well with double temper lines

All the above. :D

It's so easy when you select "all the above."

Besides, "all the above" works for me ! :D :D

The last three blades I have bought have all been 1095. My fixed EDCs are D-2, O-1, S30V, and 440C. My folding EDCs are Stellite 6k, 154CM, M-2, S90V, and 440C. I currently have on order a knife in 3V...and a knife in 440C. The thing is, the differences in design and quality of craftsmanship are greater in a lot of cases than the differences between 440C and the new whiz-bang steels. I have a 440C utility fixed blade on order from Barry Dawson. He does a selective quench and temper heat treat on his blades that makes them very good performers. It's not the steel so much as what you do with it. But given equal craftsmanship, I will take the CPM steels just about every time.

I have a Caffrey Progression II on order in 52100. I also have a Dunn Practical Tactical in 52100--I am tring to keep my hands off it, but it's crazy sharp. My EDC's right now are D2(Large Obenauf #2) rotated with a large S30V Sebenza and another Obenauf incoming with S30V. Both are very tough, long lasting edges. I'd like to get my hands on a JW Smith, too.

I love 52100. That being said, I want to try as many different steels as I can. I figure that until you give a steel a try you will never know if you like it or not. The next knife that I order will have a wootz blade. This is a steel that has really caught my imagination. I will buy more knives with 52100 blades as well. I already have another one on order from Ed Fowler.

My favorite steel is the one the customer askes for. Except the Talinite but it they just have to have it well ok.
And what kind of JW Smith do you what im sure i can get it.

None of the above. Here's my EDC...

VERY..NICE

Yup. Worn all the black off the corners and guess it pretty beat up, but still sharp enough to shave with and tight as can be. It's done good.

%2100 is far and away my favorite steel, but so far I only have fixed blades in it. When I get a folder with 52100 blade or blades, that will be my EDC.

But although it isn't too fashionable, the knife I carry most is an old, vintage slipjoint with jigged bone scales and 1095 bldes. And it works just fine. It takes a wicked edge, cuts like crazy, and is a pleasure to sharpen. I also think the patina is attractive.
