A buddy of mine showed me this. He asked if I know what model it is. I immediately said Embessary but when googling images I found it with only the Axis lock. It says 470 with DA11 steel. Is it an older model Embessary?

Here is my Emissary. This one is a few months old.
Hope this helps.

Not sure what that one is......no Axis lock, no markings on blade and it really doesn't look like an Emissary.

The handles look similar that's why I said Embessary but his has no Axis lock.

There are factories overseas producing look-alikes in great numbers. This one looks like an Emissary but is very rough looking; the actual knife uses the Axis lock, not a locking liner. This one has a terrible edge. Look at the bevel and how wavy it is. Then look at the fit and finish. A real Benchmade doesn't look like this one. And there Is no DA11. Dunno what this one sold for but it was probably a good deal. Lastly cheapo steel use on these blades is probably very soft and won't hold an edge for long. Bottom line; this one isn't real.

That it does not have the axis like the rest of the 470, and if it was a limited production then the model number would have a dash number 470-xxxx

Crap edge. I ran my finger across it and it's just a tad sharper then a butter knife lol.
So my buddy got it like this:
He saw some dude had three of them. The guy wanted $150 each 😱 my buddy said $40 and he sold him one. He shows it to me and I figure something aint right because there is no Axis lock. Thanks for clearing it up. Now I'll tell my buddy he has a fake but good job not paying $150 for it 😜

You're welcome! The best philosophy is to know the product, glad to read your friend didn't get taken for more than what he spent.

So being the nice guy I am I figured I'd clean this fake and give it a quick edge on the Sharpmaker. Took one side part and the other side fell apart on its own.

Look at the lockup it's barely holding on any pressure and this thing will close on your fingers.

And the little force it takes for the blade to close on the fingers 😁

Really glad your friend didn't pay $150 for that thing!!
Kudos to you for trying to tighten it up for him!
Think it'll last with use??

Not a chance. The steel is crap and it closes with a light hit on the spine. Pure garbage, I have a proper BM 550-1 on its way for him so hopefully he'll replace this crap.

Jeeeeezz!! Imagine the poor sap that pays $150 for that abortion??
Joe

That 551-1 is a much better deal, you're a good friend for doing this. Interesting photos, that was a very cheaply built knife. I gave away one of my 710's a couple of weeks ago to one of my clients. Just back from service it was in excellent shape and I know it will serve him well for years to come. I own plenty of Benchmades, it was good for me to let one of mine go. He said it was one of the best knives ever given to him.

Did you guys notice the HUGE thumb studs. They spin in place 🙄
This thing is just a disaster and paying even $40 for it seems like a rip off.
