what bolster thickness to use ???

I am going to finish a blade the blade is 5/32 in thickness,I am going to use bolsters on it but am confused
on what thickness to use I am going to dove tail and am work it down
i have practice with 1/8 inch stock and it looks a little thin when
it is worked down to make the pins disappear,I want some thicker stock
to work with,any suggestions ?

i use 1/4in. & taper the holes

I use 1/8" on small knives and 3/6" on large ones. I start with the pins protruding about 1/8" on each side and beat with a 4# hammer. Once I finish smashing the pins, there is little grinding necessary after smoothing.
