A friend asked me to help him find a boot knife. I always though they clipped on the boot but he wants it to strap to his leg? Needs to have some quality. Benchmade & Spyderco, my favorites, don't seem to have anything. can you advise me on where to send him?

Kershaw make a boot knife which comes with a polymer sheath and multiple web attachment options. Personally I don't like all the attachment options as they seem to be overkill for what is a relatively small, light knife. It does, however, come with a ball chain for neck carry which I find to be the best option. It is a slim, well balanced and light knife, dagger shaped, but sharpened on one side only. The sheath is secure and it works well for neck carry, which is how I've used it when hiking. It's one piece construction (which makes for easy cleaning) and looks like a casting. It's made in China. I've had no problems - it cuts beautifully. Check it out here http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=KS4351

I bought the Kabar TDI ankle knife. Around 45$
The ankle rig is super comfortable, zero complaints there. It rides nice, and does not print with loosely fitted pants. The rig has a great moisture wicking barrier so it doesn't become hot and sweaty (uncomfortable) if your caught wearing it for long periods of time.
It really is a good ankle rig.

You can also buy just the ankle rig for around 16$ and try to attach a different knife to it if you don't like the TDI knife.

The TDI blade is made of AUS 8A, which holds it edge more then well enough for a last ditch self defense knife.

Here's a picture of the knife and the rig. It can be worn over a boot, or just above the ankle if your wearing running shoes.

And here it is on the leg.

Here's a review by cutlerylover on it.

No, it draws much like a pistol. Fast and clean.

Like I said, the knife may not be the best there is, but the rig that you wear is the best and most comfortable way of attachment That I've seen in the production class.
