The fact that you don't have it or the fact that someone else DOES?

I lost a 1st Gen Spyderco Endura when I was a kid. Still miss it to this day.
It might have been stolen. In this case the fact that someone else has it
definitely bothers me more. What about you guys?

What would bother me is the fact that the person probably won't appreciate it as much as I did... I wouldn't mind if they enjoyed it and realized it for what it was.

it's hard to beat what happened to my friend. he lost his BM auto. suddenly a guy at work, who always carries shit equipment OWNS one. the guy obviously stole/found my friend's knife because he treats it like a 10 dollar junker - throws it in his locker, etc.

my friend can't do anything about it. he has no proof of ownership and they're all armed. if he just straight up takes it from the dude, well he committed a robbery. the guy holds his story about where he bought the knife, 2nd hand no receipt. it's a dead end, but he actually has to watch this thief abuse a knife he paid for :-(

I lost a Spyderco Endura in the woods once. Looked for hours and couldn't find it as I didn't know exactly where I dropped it. The part that bugs me to this day is that that knife is probably still out there in the middle of the woods waiting forever under leaves and dirt. Just sitting there. Being of no use to anyone. In my mind sometimes I'll see it just sitting there in a remote piece of forest for all eternity.

Why doesn't he just take it back and use the same story. I'd walk up to the guy the next day and show it to him. I'd say "dude I bought a knife just like yours yesterday". "It's a little beat up but the price is right". Maybe even go have it engraved for $15.00 with some random initials so the fella can't really prove it was his that he stole. Works both ways. He'll know it's the knife he stole but won't have any proof that it is.

That sucks. If that guy really stole it he's a punk for sure.

Too bad for the Endura. It's be cool if it was recovered
one day and we could see how it held up to long term
outdoor abuse.

When I was a senior in high school, I saved up and bought a specific $25 fitted Raiders hat that I had wanted for years. I put my initials in Sharpie on the tag inside. A week later, the hat was missing from my football locker. The wanna-be punk in the locker next to me suddenly had the same new Raiders hat, minus the tag. Same situation, nothing I could really do.

One night just after high school, he was all spun (as usual) and lost a game of chicken with a freight train. In retrospect, it was just a hat and he had much bigger problems than petty theft. I am glad that I did not commit robbery to get it back. Also, I could not be 100% sure that the hat was mine.

zignal_zero, it sucks that your friend has to see his stolen Benchmade every day at work. It is a heck of a situation to be in. Internet bravado aside, approaching the thief/colleague or the boss is easier said than done.

Back OT, if I lost a knife, I would prefer that someone found it and used it. If it was stolen, the feeling of being ripped off would be much worse than the loss of a knife. In either case, it's not like I am exactly in danger of not having something to cut with. :o

What bothers me most, is just that I was so careless as to lose one. I think I have only lost 2 in my adult life. (I've had 2 stolen by a family member when he was a teen, that I still grit my teeth over though!!!!!)

I actually hope that someone that needs it finds one, rather than it just be lost somewhere, even if I never get it back.
