What Folder knives are still made in United States / Canada? What brands as I hate knife products that are made in China.

benchmade blue class and gold class, a number of spydercos, most kershaws, some gerber, most leatherman, and thats all i got off the top of my head

Most Kershaws, BM Blue/Gold, most Spyderco, RAT, CRK, Strider, Hinderer, Surefire.

Queen, Case, Bear and Son, most Buck folders(the website clearly indicates which models are made in the USA)

Actually most Spyderco Knives are made in Seki City, Japan, but there are several that are made in the US - Military, Para-Military are a couple

Seki isn't China right? I assumed he meant non-china countries of origin. I am aware that a large number of Spyderco's are produced in Japan.

The only real knife production company that is based in Canada is Grohman knives.

There are several excellent custom knife makers in both Country's .

To the U.S. list add Bark River, Lone Wolf and Bradley Cutlery.

Isn't the real issue how it's made? What level of quality. Spyderco, Benchmade,... all of the premium knife brands manufacture overseas. But they QA. And that's all the difference.

Chinese products are partly crap so are US products, especially when prices are compared to quality. I have excellent Chinese-made Spydercos (fair value for low price) and worthless Emersons made in USA.

Even after having countless troubles with American (Ford) and French (Peugeot, Renault)cars, I believe not all American and French cars are inferior to, lets say, Japanese and German cars.

No, I'm taking back that one. I don't think French are able to produce error-free automobiles, at least not in this century.

Bear and Son makes their knives in the USA. I just purchased a carbon steel folder they make and I was really impressed.

That's the most important point right there. I have Import slipjoints that are made way better than some domestically made ones I've got; same for tacticals as well.

On the other hand, the American-made knives I've seen from Gerber, Buck, and especially from Spyderco, beat most imports hands down.

I'm specifically NOT mentioning names here because I don't want to start another debate on political stuff. But the point is, things can & will usually improve given enough time. Japan is an example: I've seen little pocket knives from the 60's & 70's that were literally ridiculous in their F&F, but I have a Browning 'Ice Storm' made by MCusta that is in the top three of my better made knives.

I won't writer anything off just because it's an import.

thx - cpr

If I am not mistaken, Top Knives and Kabars USMC, Next Generation and the Becker line are also made in the U.S.A..

Some that are no longer made in the USA, but there is still product out there that is worth having is Schrade USA. If it does not say USA on it, then it is foreign made Scrhade, but worth acquiring in my book. Remington is another that used to be USA manufactured with some good folders out there. I also enjoy acquiring Robeson and Queen cutlery. Some still USA made or new up and coming manufacturers are: Canal St. Cutlery, Schatt and Morgan and Great Eastern Cutlery GEC to name a few. Did anyone mention Custom category?
