What Buck fixed blade knives are convex ground?

I am still in search of the perfect woods-walking knife. I like the Bayley knife Bear Grylls carries now on 'Man vs Wild'. At 350 pounds in England, probably about $730+ here, it's out of the question. I have enjoyed my 192 Vanguard, but there are times when that concave/hollow ground blade is just not right. Anyone know of a stock or custom Buck fixed blade with a convex blade grind? Thanks!

I'm not aware of any Bucks with a convex grind. Check out Bark River knives. They have some nice fixed blades, all convex ground I believe. If I wasn't hooked on Bucks, I'd probably have several :D

But, it's easy enough to put a convex edge on most knives yourself. I've done it with my SAK and few others.

Sadly, it is easier to take away metal from a convex grind to make a hollow or concave grind. Putting metal back on a concave or hollow grind, like every Buck I've had/got, to make a convex grind, would be difficult.

I got my first Bark River knife today - a Huntsman - to go with my BM 'Activator+' which came yesterday. That's $200 of my Buck bucks gone - for my 'interpretation' of Bear Grylls Bayley knife - for me, a 'woods walking' knife. My latest Buck for this application is a 192, although a 102 would be a tad better, due to it's smaller size. I don't need a Bowie - or a 119, although it's a fine performer, as was my 110. I just want something smaller - and that convex grind may be heartier - great for making kindling, forks & spoons, tent stakes, walking stick, etc - and pocketable, too.

If you want a flat grind utility knife that is made of D2 tool steel, is thick and well made then take a look at Knives of Alaska's Camp knife. Cabela's has them and online stores sell them for about $85.

I really like my Buck Vanguard for all-around use and for medium size game. But the KOA Camp Knife is a real beaut, too. Super sharp edge and a reputation for keeping it. I have not used it yet, but bought one for a son-in-law. Feels like it is built to last generations and a great blade style/size.

All my knives, including Bucks, get sharpened on a stone until they have a flat edge so they can be easily sharpened in the field. Hollow grind gives a super sharp edge but it is fragile and I don't know how to properly sharpen one in the field.

The KOA knives all come with flat grind edge from the factory.

Well, the B R 'Huntsman' started something. I had been saving my sheckles for a new S&W for a while... but my lust got the best of me. I now have a Fox River, Gameskeeper, North Star LE, and T.U.S.K. - all with Micarta, ie, 'user', scales. They are totally different. That Huntsman has been carried in it's belt sheath in my RF pocket - as an EDC. It will never 'replace' my 110's or 419, but my 192 may sit in the case more. My B Rs are all A-2 steel, that BM is D2 - and probably would have just bested the 192, and prevented my buying all of those B Rs. Sadly, the Huntsman was 'on the way' and changed everything. Reportedly, their convex grind is easily maintained with a properly charged strop/hone. We'll see... but I really was content with that 192 for s-o-o-o long.

stainz. Could you post a picture of the gameskeeper next to the Buck 192? I have a few Bark rivers but I'm considering the gameskeeper. I like my Buck 192 and would like to see a comparison of the two side by side. I have the huntsman, boone, and bms from Brkt already.

Here is the basic 119, BM 201 Activator+, B R Huntsman, and B R Gameskeeper. I am awaiting a 005GY 'Gen5' - maybe Thursday's mail - it may have promise.

Les stroud likes the Buck 119 I read somewhere.
but in 'survivorman' you always see him with his leatherman multitool.

all those four knives on the pic are great for survival in my opinion.

Stainz - There are no Buck knives that are convex ground, but there are a few that are flat ground. The new Buck/Simonich Urban Ravens would be an example that are flat ground.

as to a good woods/camp knife there is an intruder that is 13 inches long and looks to be a good one for the woods ... maby better then a 124
i had one for YearS and it always worked great as a camper...
