What Buck?

I used my trusty 192 on a buck a few weeks ago and a AG 691 on a pig last week. Unfortuately, the 691 didn't survive that tough old pig. In processing both I used the S30V open season small game, whatever that number is. I really like how that knife handles.

Me and my Brother David worked up a fair sized wild hog with a few Bucks..I used a 651 lol!

I usually take a few knives to camp. I'm always wanting to take an extra knife or two to try out and see how they perform. Got a buck(deer) a week ago and as is usually the case, it's cold, dark, and I'm tired and ready to get the deer processed so I can eat supper and don't have time to experiment and it never fails, I grab a 110 because I've done enough deer with them to know I can get one done quick and without any hassles. This year I've been using a plain 2012 110 I picked up at Walmart when it was new, easily sharpened compared to my fancier stuff.
Yes a folder can get messy. I got my deer last Monday evening. Didn't get around to cleaning it, hunted all day Tuesday(planned to clean it if we got another deer), drove home, slept, then went to Thanksgiving dinners on Wed, Thurs. long story short, the knife sat covered in blood and hair for nearly a week in a plastic baggie in the ice chest before I got around to cleaning it, but it only took about 5 minutes under the sink in soap and water and a couple of swipes to touch it up and it looked like new. I don't usually abuse a knife, but at camp, it was cold and the only place to clean it was about a 5 mile 4 wheeler ride to the creek so it waited.
I have been eyeing those 101 Bucks, a fixed blade version of a 110. But one thing that get overlooked with a fixed blade is if it is real cold, I'm usually wearing coveralls or insulated overalls and no belt, the 110 works great in a hunting coat pocket

I like to use a skinning knife for the skinning process and then switch to a boning knife once the skin is off.
I have used each of these skinners and my favorite which I have been using for several years now is the Bucklite Max 679. I handled the new Bucklite max 2 at the factory and just didn't care for the larger handle, they just don't feel agile to me, similar to some of the others I have in the picture.

I also like the feel of the 113 but the blade just seems short.

However though I got the Open Season small game #539 a couple years ago and I have to say it has become my new favorite but just a tad small though so, I think my next skinner is going to be the Open season Skinner. I have not had a chance to use the 103 but I will shortly. Also anxious to try out my Open Season 535, might be a tad larger for a white tail but it needs to be quenched. LOL

101 on a buck Monday and 673 antlerless today. Skinned today’s with standard 110LT. My nephew was impressed with its sharpness. Eh, it was its first real use, that’s SOP for new Bucks, that’s why we love em. All performed flawlessly.
