What Busse knives are going for around $300-400 right now?

I've owned many Swamprats and Scrapyards, but never any "real" Busse knives. I'm looking at getting my first Busse soon, but can't decide between all of the models. I don't need anything fancy, new, or unused, just something made of INFI. I have a few nice knives to trade/sell and could possibly scrounge $400 ($300 would be easier). I'm not looking for a chopper, preferably something in the 4-5" class with any kind of synthetic handle scales. What do my options look like if anything?

Is there a model out there that is considered the best value right now?

well you can score a SAR4LE on the exchange in all probability for around 400.00, that was face value, great knife. Or you could opt for the Tankbuster which is the current model at the Bussecombat web site, looks like it is going to be a great blade.

or you can probably pic up a BATAC CG for around 300.00 on the exchange or an LE version for close to 400.00 both exceptional knives. good luck with your choice and remember to post pics

Tank Buster - 6 inch blade, available direct from the Busse shop, for $287 for the base model combat grade.

It will take "two weeks" (ie possibly months) for them to ship your knife to you, but you can get a bunch of custom options on it, and get it at factory direct prices rather than paying inflated second-hand market prices.

The Tank Buster Directly from Busse Combat is the obvious choice, though a little bigger than you wanted.

I'd say (if not the tank buster) browse the exchange. Stick to threads with Busse in the title. Most knives will always go within a similar price range, but every now and then someone needs to move a knife quickly and you can score a more expensive knife, for cheap. That way you're not limited to searching for one model. A 4" or 5" blade does limit your options though.

-A skinny ASH is a great knife you can probably find in your range. 6" blade though.

If you just want something made of INFI, then the new Scrapper 5 LE is just the ticket. They are just shipping now, were priced at $189 + $15 shipping, and some will be on the resale market in about 5 minutes.

Haunt the Sale Forum; someone might put theirs up at near cost, and it will last only a few minutes. Or post a WTB, and you may be surprised.

Other choices in that size range would be the SAR4 and SAR5. A SAR5 with sheath just sold for $260.

IMHO the Badger Attacks (BA) of various vintages and configurations would make a good place to start your search. Keep a sharp eye on the Busse Knives For Sale forum for INFI in that 4-5" range.

Something that isn't talked about a lot, but that can make a HUGE difference in use, is handle shape and size vs the user's hand. It is very, very subjective and not always either measurable or even explainable to someone else -- definitely a YMMV situation from user to user.

If you can, hook up with a Hog in your area who has lots of different-handled Busses or make a trip to a show where Busse/Swamp/Scrapyard knives are on display and fondle as many different styles and sizes of handles as you can. Check the heft and balance of the knife in hand, paying special attention for any hot-spots or pressure points that the handle develops in *your* hand. You will know when the right handle comes into your hand... it will immediately feel "right" and will stay that way in a variety of grips.

Happy hunting! :)

I think the Tank Buster is your best bet.

If you end up buying something off the exchange, make sure you take your time and don't get bent over. Allot of the stuff on the exchange has inflated prices IMO.

Although smaller than you spec, the Game Warden and Active Duty lines are perfect entry levels for Busse. Behind that, I would suggest trying something from the Badger Attack family. The BATAC is about as perfect as I'll get in this range until I can find an affordable BA III.

Skinny Ash and Sarsquatch, both are excellent and less than 400.00. Of the two, the Sarsquatch is my favorite.

oh, hell, why hasn't anyone mentioned the meaner or high streets? 4" blade, small enough to be a good edc if you aren't shopping for a camp knife but works for that too. can be had for less than three bills with enough left over to buy a nice sheath.

A satin/blkG10 Sar4 that just came up on the exchange.....I don't have one but it seems to be right in your wheelhouse....price,size,infi,handle

Ps. Sorry if that’s considered deal spotting… I’ll edit the post if anyone takes issue.

I object to helping newbs!!! :D

Two other knives in your range:

Street Scrapper 4 (SS4) in INFI for ~$250 these days.
Various Meaner Streets. The MilGanza (MiliGanza) Meaners are under $300.

There was an SS4 in INFI? I thought the 5 was the first and only Infi SY knife.

Honestly, you could get most of the recent standard models for around $400 or less on the exchange. You may have limited options with respect to color or handle style, and you might have to go for something used. I'd start looking for a SFNO, but there are ASH-I's in abundance too.
