I was reading over on the SYKCO Forum and Ted Wilson asked what knife anyone had which was perfect from the factory? Meaning no "mods" were desirable....and it must be a "user"....that had me thinking....because I have stripped or "modded" so many.... thinking about it I can only say my Basic 9 and my DFLE .... a FSH Variant ( although I might change the colour of the grips ).... not many though considering ..... that and I can so easily think of things to do ....

So what worked for you?

I only have experience with Scrapyards and Swamp Rats....but gotta say every one I've used I've hogged a lot of steel off the edge and made that knife slice, slice, slice....

Other than that I love them. But I like thin edges and thick spines on fixed blades. Slice like hell, pry when needed. Fun combo.

SarSquatch comp finish for me, if you don't count sanding rust a mod :D

Sar 8 LE would be another, but I haven't taken mine out enough to call it a user yet.

My Sarsquatch CE was ready to go. Unfortunately, I let it get damp and it rusted, so I had to sand it anyway. When will Jerry learn to stop using that INFI stuff and make his knives in 420J2 like the big boys do?;)

Oringinal Ratweilers were good to go.

Cultellus

SFNO LE

Skinny (0.14") Wardens

I'm having a hard time thinking of one that was perfect. Most of mine I would have wanted to be thinner. The BWBM is close to perfection, but if the butt was a bit more like the SFNO so there is no Busse Pinky, then it would be truly perfect.

Pretty much every small Busse I own has the elf choil, so none of those count. The High Street, while not my favorite knife, has nothing that I would really mod about it, so it's actually closer to perfection than knives I like more than it - as long as you ignore the worthless factory edge geometry.

The smooth bolt SJTAC is another one that's close to perfection - it came nice and sharp, and the handles and bolts are gorgeous. But again, I wish it were thinner. If I were keeping it as a user, the sandstorm SJTAC I have is about perfect from a functional standpoint. Just the right thickness, love the handle, love the slabs...

Actually that sandstorm sjtac might be the closest to perfect right out of the gate out of any Busse I own. Which is kinda funny considering I'm selling it.

Most of them are close enough to what I want that I won't put the effort into doing serious mods to them, but there are very few that I wouldn't prefer to have something different.

The SarSquatch is my favorite worker,I keep mine well oiled like my guns,,you got too,It is about the most perfect knife thats ever laid in my hand.

Perfect, no mods to this day, original (and well used) as received:

Original CG Active Duty
Original Mean Street
Tanker A PE
BATACLE
HH / Mag Canvas
HOGFSH / Mag Canvas
CGFBM / Mag Canvas
FBMLE probably takes the cake though:thumbup:

Well I was having a bit more of a think and like some have suggested my SAR 8 LE was also good to go....I found it a very good knife and similar to my Basic 9 .... I also had a Jackhammer CE which was good to go although I modded the false edge on the clip by sharpening it ...so allowing for that it can't count for me...but the CE's were great knives in terms of the convex edges they came with.

Yes I like that SJTAC a lot... but you only need one I guess...that was why I sold my JH as I did so much work to the Snakeskin SJTAC Variant to make it just what I wanted I then decided it would nearly always be picked.

Infact that is the only reason I often have for "thinning the herd"....otherwise I spend an age deciding which to take with me... and I can't stand messing like that...

I'm on the Sarsquatch CE boat, too. One of the best designs ever.

The Ratweiler would be also, but I sanded some of the more abrasive areas on the handle lightly, especially around the rivet holes. Same with my CGFBM and NMSFNO.

Other users I like with no mods -

Battle Rat
Rat Trap
Original-style Howling Rat
HRLM
Dog Skinner
HC LE
S5 CG
BATAC CG
AD SE 2007
Skeleton Key
Probably my SAR4, but I haven't used it yet.

Hi J, Happy New Year  Yes, I agree those 1-300 SHBM's would be perfect....yours even had a bottle opener :D

I (imagine) the NMFBM LE is perfect, I hope to KNOW firsthand soon.
