What can a 710HS do better than others?

I've been playing around with my 710HS quite a bit since getting it, and this thing really is impressive.

Here are some things that really stood out to me so far:
It can cut slices our of the side of nails without ruining the edge.
It can cleanly push-cut through the back of a telephone book, even though it is not a narrow blade.
It takes a convexed and polished edge very easily with sharpmaker and strop.

M2 is definitely fun stuff!

Anybody else have some impressive things they have done with a 710HS?

Those are some soft nails. Either that or BM's M2 is heat treated by a magician. You are talking about nails as in construction type nails that get hammered into wood. Correct?

It was a nail I found at work, in the office: small head, finishing nail, aparently unused. The knife edge bit in and sliced slivery curly pieces off the side of it.

That is totally unreal. I owned a 710hs for a very short time and was unimpressed so I sold it. Looking back, I guess I should have held onto it and "torture" tested it. Sheesh.

Are nails really all that hard? I guess I never really thought about it too much, but I'd assume that they don't have to be very hard.

I'm no Mr. Stamp, but I have found BM's M2 to be easy to sharpen and hold an edge longer than most of the steels I've used. It has become my favorite blade material (for a EDC knife).

I believe many others have extolled its virtues on this site, though. Still, it's nice to hear others agree.

RIP

There are various types, the common nails are not. M2 is a HSS which is commonly used to cut up metals, hacksaw blades for example, though these are ran harder than Benchmades blades which are optomized for toughness rather than strength/wear resistance.

Ah heck! I've bee wanting one for the longest time. I'm still trying to decide between it and a Manix. Posts like this sure make deciding REALLY difficult. :grumpy:

sorry, double tap. . .

Yes, You can put a very fine edge on it, but the edge retention is the thing, that impresses me the most.
