What can anyone tell me about these?

I have a katana w/scabbard and a dagger that were part of my mother's estate. I am not knowledgeable about these types of items and there is no one from my mother's generation left who knows how these two things came to be in the family. There were stories floating around about them but no one knows what is tru and what is not. I have taken them to a couple of pawn shops but with mixed results. I believe they are old, WWII possibly, or perhaps older. Would appreciate any info anyone might have. I am new to this forum and don't see a place where I can post some photos. Help!!
 
Well, you need to post photos. Just hover your pointer over the icons and you will find "insert images". That will give you the "browse" prompt.
