What can I do to not piss off forum members and not be banned?

I don't really know of any other "appropriate" place to post this, so I'm posting it here.

It seems that ever since I've been here, I've been marked as a troll because I expressed my opinion about how I feel balisongs are used, their political and social status, and their legality and availability. I have also been ridiculed for my balicomb idea, first ridiculed at the mere mention of such a thing, then ridicule for making it on a CNC machine, my way of business and design, not to mention the fact that when asked to provide some sort of proof that I was capable of proofing that I had the skills necessary to complete the project, I was told that it was "easy" to draw and model in CAD, and anyone could do it without this person (who shall remain unnamed) proving that he/she themselves could, but provided criticism anyway from an inexperienced point of view.

This is not the way I intended to start a relationship with the forum, nor did I mean to be hurtful or hateful with my words.

In all these posts, I had been told several times that the people who were insulting me were some how "helping" me. I hardly see how helping someone with even a little bit of negative criticism is the least bit helpful.

It has been my understanding on many other forums that posting to tell someone their idea sucks or anything along those lines, is rude and the poster posting those posts is better off keeping their mouths shut rather then wasting precious forum bandwidth to express dislike.

In all honesty, I really have to wonder why a forum member who has been here for a longer period of time then I and has more posts is more tolerated in doing the same "negative" things to me starting an argument, or right back at me after I've posted something.

However this thread isn't meant to lecture you about anything. I'm asking how I can better respond and react to forum posts and members opinions and ideas better so I won't be booted off, nor accumulate infractions against my account every day.

You could start by not posting stuff that has nothing to do with general knife discussion in the general knife discussion section.....

Just like out in the world, If you make your views known, you've just become a target. Its just a sign of the times-double so for the internet.

Perhaps you haven't read his previous posts. OrenG has only been infracted for violating forum rules. That would be my suggestion. Stop it.

I was on the balisong forum here for a few posts, just asking a few questions.

They are turbopurists when it comes to knives. Don't worry too much about it.

People that get butt hurt on forums usually get riled up and freak out. People say stupid stuff and just ignore it and don't take it to heart. If you get too upset, Id just leave. If people are saying your project is crap (personnally I have no idea what it is and have no opinion) it might be helpful to find out why. If one person feels that way, others may feel the same.Use the negative feedback to aid you, dont get all hurt about it.

I suggest that you not ask for advice on how to obtain knives that are illegal in your area and that you respect the rules and regulations here on Bladeforums.

I don't think this belongs here. Either way using some common sense works. And there are two sides to every story.

Have no idea about anything that happened....but always remember, just follow the rules, and be cool. Things will be fine.

gaining some common sense, taking your meds, and perhaps not posting a thread about what you shouldn't post might be a fine starting point.

Oh yeah...it is just a forum...relax.

OrenG, first of all, I've moved the thread to the proper forum.

To answer your question, I would say that since you're new here, "read more, post less". Get a feel for the way a particular forum works. Bladeforums is so varied, different forums have different rules and traditions. Read the FAQ!

When you do participate in a discussion, learn to ignore people who aren't moving the topic forward. Leave the trolls and contrarians to the moderators. There aren't that many of us and we can't watch every thread, but you can report disruptive behavior. (Click on the Report Post icon in the heading of any post: an exclamation point in a triangle).

When in doubt, ask. Service & Support is here for Bladeforums operating questions. Ask a moderator: you can click on any poster's name and get a drop-down menu that will access that moderator's email.

You came on as suspicious when you go onto the Bali forum, and describe the balisong as not a legitimate knife design, but a dangerous device mostly used by thugs. You say that you acquired this knowledge because you would see it every day in school. Although that may be true, in the 50's not everyone with a switch was a Biker, or a member of the Jets. Also, for some reason~ you say that balisongs were so prevalent where you are, you can't find a place to buy one. Then when informed that you breaking rules and soliciting illegal activities, you feel offended. You have become defensive and rebelling against the rules of the forum, you insult other members, and challenge moderator wishes. This is why you are making some think you are trolling. I think that maybe you should lurk for awhile, and perhaps learn something, before you make a plan to make bali combs to sell. And realize that saying to anyone here that knives (that you wish to acquire?) are nothing but dangerous weapons and a poor design to any knife enthusiast/collector/user of said knife style is going to be looked at as trolling.

If you want to question laws and protest laws and discuss how to change laws and discuss why laws are what they are, well that's political discussion; take it to the political forum.

Read and follow the site rules and also the forum-specific rules for each forum you post in.

Replacing a letter or two with punctuation characters doesn't turn foul language into clean language. Learn to speak and make your points without those words. This is a good lesson in life in general.

And grow a backbone. If someone snipes at you, let it roll off your back. There is no need to take a shot back.

Act as an Adult and treat others as you wish to be treated.

Do not engage in childish behaviors, whatever anyone else is doing.
Spend less time posting and more time reading, You will learn much.
Enjoy Yourself and Others here.

Esav is right about reading more and posting less it was a long time before I started posting consistently and the same thing happened to me when I posted a thread about rubber sheathes in the sheath forum. Just wait, everybody will cool down you will learn some bladeforums eticit and everything will be fine

I had to shift through quite a few posts to determine what was going on with the objections to your posts. When there are numerous complaints about one individual (many into one) we as moderators have to weight that fact heavily, given that the "many" have been on this forum without problem for some time. This is logical if you think about it. Ask yourself "why am I rubbing folks the wrong way".
If you make a balicomb or whatever you choose, do it because you'll have fun. Post some photos and you'll probably get some "hey that's cool" feedback. If you merely talk and argue about it you'll probably be regarded as a troll whether you are or not (the walking and quacking test).
Please remember there are people on the balisong forum who have been collecting, making, etc. for a long, long time. They're not easily impressed by anything, simply because they've seen so much already. Most of us do this knife thing for fun, just as one might collect antiques, or sports memorabilia or whatever. So as already stated read more, post less, and have some fun. For most of us arguing isn't fun.
