I just bought my first Sebenza on the exchange. It is a small classic with African Blackwood inserts. I am wondering what to expect from the wood inserts as far as durability. Are they easy to scratch and mar, do they hold up well? Any special cleaning or care issues that I should know about? I am really looking forward to recieving this knife. I have a feeling that it and my new bg42 cf millie are going to fight for space. :D

I use lemon oil on my Bocote inlay larg and it seems to work great at not gumming up the action. I think you will start to favor the Sebby after a bit of handling it.Nice buy!!!!

I have never had any problem with the wood inlays scratching easily, I assume, because the wood is stabilized. I find that the titanium scratches much easier than the wood inlays. I believe CRK uses something called renaissance wax on the wood, to help protect it and keep it looking as good as possible. Enjoy your first seb....I guarantee you will be buying more!

Thank you both for your insights. I am looking foward to getting it.

MPE- So you use lemon oil on the whole knife and not just on the inserts?

You shouldn't have to worry about the wood in regular use as it has been stabilized and is hard, not to say it can't be scratched, but with normal use you shouldn't get any. I use Ren Wax on my wood inserts and on the polished titanium frame, and blade. That protects it just fine with no oily residue left over.:D

I just use lemon oil on the inlays, but do not worry about any corrosive properties some cleaners may have and it does not gum up the rest of the knife.Just make sure you wipe clean after use so as to not have a slippery knife in hand. When I take the blade out I use a bore cleaner on the blade and other parts and a firearms lub. This has worked real well giving a shper smooth action.
