What can the Spyderco resilience do that the cold steel recon 1 clip or spear point cannot do and vice versa? These things keep me up at night I need a new hobby!

Spyderco's choice of steel, 8Cr3MoV, is nowhere near as good as Cold Steel's choice of CTS-XHP or S35VN.

[EDIT] I did not know that you could get the Recon 1 in Aus-8. I'd take the Recon 1 in CTS-XHP.

Well something the Spyderco can't do is appeal to me as I dislike most Spydercos(except for the Euroedge) :P. Other than that completely irrelevant detail, doesn't the recon 1 have a stronger locking mechanism?

I have both and the Recon 1 is a better knife. In S35VN or XHP.

Bigger, better built, better steel and more durable. And much better lock.

P.s. The Recon costs 2x as much though....

These two knives are worlds apart really. The Recon is a large bullet proof workhorse of a knife that sits in a perfect medium, meaning it's strong as a bull but still has good enough geometry to actually cut things and be useful as a large everyday carry. If you like the novelty of being able to "abuse" knives then it will take it and keep smiling. The Tenacious is a small budget EDC folder which is easy to actuate, cuts well and built well enough for any normal tasks. Both good knives, just meant for different things.

They both have advantages and disadvantages. They are both a great value in their own way. With the Spyderco, you get an outstanding knife for an affordable price, but the blade steel 8cr13mov won’t hold an edge near as long as CTS-XHP.
The Cold Steel is more costly, but it is also a great value considering the knife itself is definitely an upgrade, since it has better blade steel and a stronger lock.

You asked about Tenacious, Your post shows Resilience.??

Its half the price. Im not sure what there is to compare. One runs around 100 bucks. The other 45. Sell them after a year or two. you would be closer to getting your money back on the Spyderco.

Be found all day every day, even at some big box stores for about $50.

In all seriousness, I'll echo the others here. They are two completely different knives and it's an apples-to-oranges comparison.

This pretty much my opinion, as well. The only thing I can add is the Tenacious comes in a variety of colors making an excellent, value collectable. I have blue, green, brown, and orange.

I'm sure someone could suggest a Spyderco model that would better compare to the Recon . I expect it will be pricey . CS packs a lot of bang for your buck . But Spyderco makes very fine and innovative folders with a wide selection . Maybe a Military or Manix ?

Most importantly for us couch potato knife users () is that the Tenacious (and Resiliance) will middle finger flick with ease.

Never underestimate a well placed middle finger flick.

Not really. I'd say the Manix 2 is comparable very directly.

Recon at Knifecenter, for $99.95

Manix 2 at Knifecenter, $110.47

So, for a whopping $10 difference, it's got nearly identical materials and construction, and equally strong (for all practical purposes). Both are incredibly hard working knives. As an added bonus, the extra $10 means you're buying a made in USA item, if that matters to you.

I'd say Spyderco packs just as much value if not more.
