What can you do with a Ratweiler? After looking at this picture it appears that you are unable to pry a vise apart

Eric,

Did the Rat return to true after that ordeal!?

No, but we didn't expect it to. However, here is what it did do.

We bent it to 45 degrees and it returned to true and even after we did the bend pictured above (somewhere around 100 degrees) it was still functional if it needed to be used in a survival situation. It was not in pieces and it could still be used. If I ever needed to use a knife in such a manner, I would rather have it take a set(like ours did) then have it end up in pieces and not be at all functional.

:D:D

Eric,

That is TOO cool. For it to be bent 45 degrees and return to true is incredible in and of itself.

Amazing that the steel holds an edge so well and yet can be bent to 100 deg and not shatter...

Hmf. Soon 'nuff... I shall have one for my car, methinks. ;)

Thanks.

just btt with an opinion on it,

the pipe makes it seem like the blade is bending a little more then it is so its kindof misleading, but what it really shows is that you will absolutely be made aware of the fact that your blade is on the verge of breaking before it does.

when the knife bends excessively, let off a little, try a different grip/penetration depth/angle. its break point, is after bending.

where as with a stiffer steel, like ats-34 etc, you may not have any indication that it will break, so you may not be able to judge what pressure to put on it...

so bending like that is a very good thing :D (i got that all from cliff stamps testing reviews... all stated as i understood it, not qouted)

I, for one, am impressed.
It is nice to see what outr knives are capable of in extreme situations, without having to mangle our personal blades. While I am sure I will never have to push any of my rats to that extreme, it is nice to know that I could.

The joys of high carbon steel and a differential heat-treat. ;)
