What can you tell me about Buck/Strider knives?

I have a couple Buck/Striders, a SBMF OD Green folder and some kind of large chunky fixed blade with G-10 handles (I believe it's a Buck/Strider FB 890TX).

I've heard they've appreciated in price a little and have become desirable. Is that true? I paid $50 for the SBMF and I think I paid like $80 for the fixed blade at a store a few years ago. They seem really nicely made for the money, but I was just wondering about the rumor I heard that they're worth more now.

They are very durable, well built knives. Since they have been discontinued, they are more "collectible" I have a few of the folders and I really like them. I use 'em too ;)

I like my SBMF as far as the styling and blade goes, but the action isn't very good (very very stiff on mine) and I'm not a fan of the plastic handles. But I guess that's why there's the (very expensive) Strider versions to be had :D If the Buck version had been just as good, there'd be no reason to buy the Strider version!

They do have better G-10 models, and they are very nice. I can't say as to the Buck version being as good or not, I have never handled a Strider ;) One major difference is liner lock, and frame lock. The pivot should be smooth, sounds like yours may be a tad tight.

They are very collectible, and I havent been able to find one for under 100 dollars anywhere I look. If you still have one-hang on to it, the value will only keep going up.

A quick search here, and on some online auctions, you can find the selling prices as of recent easily. ;)

3 sold right here on the BF sale threads in the last month for under $100.00 ;)

There are quite a few around for fair prices, just gotta keep looking and have some connections ;)

I remember trying to loosen it and it was only "blades almost going to fall out" and "it's so stiff you can't get it open". Probably just need to take it apart and clean and lube everything.

The G10 or other (FRN?) models? I see the ones without the G10 all the time for way under $100.

I like my Strider/Buck. I've had it for years and am still satisfied with it.

I've got a Buck Strider 880 SP and think it's a very nice, heavy duty knife. I like it a lot. In fact it was my EDC for several days this week.

Buck makes great knives.

strider is a questionable person. You can search on this site to see who/what he is. A knife is a very personal thing to me and as a career military man I won't have anything with his name on it in my house.
