so i have this seiko that i cam upon while snowboarding a few years back. i just dug it out of my closet because i need a watch. I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on it.

especially where i can get a new link for the band, or reccomend a new band.

also, the second hand doesnt seem to be movign naturally. it will tick twice, the pause for a second, the tick twice again. other than that, it keeps time very well.

The kinetic watch second hands will move that way when the cell is not charges fully. They are usually a quartz drive with an auto-kinetic generator built in that charges it by the motion of walking or otherwise moving your arm. Once it is charged up, the second hand will move normally.

Dave's got it. It's a self-winding electric watch. The rotor, instead of winding a spring, is geared to a tiny generator that charges the battery. IIRC the early ones had a capacitor instead of a battery, but they had problems and switched to a lithium-ion battery. You have to wear it regularly to keep it running.

so it is a battery free watch? that is great to know.

anyone know how i would go about getting a link to add to the band?

Check with these guys. They are Casio's service center. I have orderd links and bands from them before.

Nice find ssb0b.
I have been wearing my Seiko Kinetic for the past 5 years. I love it, it keeps great time and has gotten me a lot of compliments. Good luck with getting you band squared away.

No problem. I'm pretty sure thats your watch. You can check by looking on the back of your watch and there will be a set of numbers. Mine's 5M62-0030. So my watch would be a 5M62. I just went off of your pictures to guess.

mines 5j22-0a50

just found out that this watch was an early kinetic watch from seiko. it was their flagship kinetic in 1999 and retailed for $600.

im psyched to get this thing ready for daily wear.

oh. and yes its battery free. there is a charging cell in there that stores energy im guessing kind of like the flash in a camera. The counter weight charges it. When you wear it daily itll charge it from walking, but you should get it full charged first. Push the button and the seconds hand will move and tell you how much charge ya got. don't worry. it wont mess up the time, it will resume when it should.
