What can you tell me about my Voorhis bowie?

I purchased it between ten and fifteen years ago. It's in mint condition. Never been used for anything. Blade is 7.5" long.

Some other questions:

What practical function would you think this knife could serve? In the old days, when one needed a bowie knife as a back up to his single shot pistol, these types of knives had real practical function, but do bowie style knives like this still get used today, and for what, other than fighting? If you owned this knife, and didn't mind using a custom knife, what would you use it for? Thanks.

that's a real beauty!

Practical purpose? Well, it looks to me like a 'fighting knife' but I think it would be practical for wandering around in bear or cougar country as a way to preserve peace of mind, if nothing else. That huge guard would be in the way for a lot of hunting/bush uses, minimizing its practicality for lots of things.

Other than that, heavy petting and fondling would also be appropriate:D

LOL. Thanks. Yeah, that's about the way I see it, too. ;)

I guess you'd have to take a dremmel to the guard (or at least one side of it) to make it useful for anything other than fighting. But that would be a sin.

PS I think Voorhis is known mainly for making big fighting knives and short swords.

Self defense isn't a "practical function"? It's a Bowie, son.

I s'pose you could use it to cut weeds or spread peanut butter, just like I could use my Wilson CQB .45 to crack walnuts.

Voorhis makes a good blade. You've got a nice 'un there, no need to explain it to those who don't "get it".

mall security might have a problem with it;)
