What can you tell me about the 25 inch Kobra?

I am interested in getting a "substitute" falcata or kopis, and was wondering if the 25 inch Kobra would do the trick.
Looking for a short sword with a lot of striking power but not a lot of excessive weight.
Also, what would typical blade and handle dimensions look like?

Thanks, y'all.

I'd highly recommend the 25" Kobra. Very fast, easy to manipulate, it's one of my favourites (the other is a 30" Kobra). Keep in mind it's not really a Kuhk, so it's not quite as strong as an AK. It's very strong, just not as indestructable as the AKs. :)

I don't personally own one, but the 25" Kobra sounds like what you're looking for. The Kobras are geared more toward martial arts use IIRC.

Here's the dimensions & weights on three 25"-ers in pounds, ounces / length:
The Kobra's the lightest.

25” Kobra, wood, Kumar- 1, 15.8 / 25.5”

25” Gelbu Special, wood, Sher- 2, 0.7 / 25”

25” Malla, horn, Kumar- 2, 7.6 / 25.75”

The 25" khuk is another breed of cat.

Not for everybody, but I like 'em.

A 25" kobra is a great selection for a non-traditional sword, I love mine. I picked it up as a Christmas Special from Uncle Bill a couple years ago. It's Very fast and light for such a large blade.

Here's a pic of it next to a sirupati I got from a fellow forumite, and some stats for comparison purposes. The one on top is the kobra, bottom one is the sirupati. I don't have a proper scale to weigh them, but these feel identical in weight. Just remember that weights and dimensions can vary from blade to blade.

Kobra by Kumar: 25-1/2" OAL, handle is 6-5/8", spine is 3/8" thick.

Sirupati by Sher: 25" OAL, handle is 6-1/4", also 3/8" spine.

The main difference between these two is the larger diameter handle on the kobra. As I have large hands, I find that the fatter handle is a bit easier for me to control.

These are very tough blades, the sirupati has been heavily used and just keeps on cutting. Every collection should have at least one of these.

You could always hold out a bit and get an actual falcata... They're supposed to be coming.... If you want something lighter, a Chitlangi would do nicely.

I have an 18 inch Dui Chirra Chitlangi (a gift from a friend) that I really, really like.
Hmmm, if there are actual falcatas coming again relatively soon, maybe I will wait.

The Deepeeka Horsehead falcata also looks interesting, and at least has reasonably accurate construction, but I still wonder about the quality.
Just based on personal experience and that of others, I *know* HI stuff is good.

Is that my old siru? If so, I'm glad it's getting the use it deserves. Beautiful blade (it really spoke to me) but it was just too much for me. I've gotten plenty of use out of the white metal 15" AK, not too big with plenty of belly. Hey that sounds a lot like me.
