I've been away from the knife scene for about some 7 years. Always liked sharp things but didn't get involved with blades for all that time - I just had other things in focus, but my collection was still proudly displayed.
Recently, the fire was lit again for me. Ever since I started to get in touch with the knife world again and after I came here to KF, I have this impression that Gerber is not a highly regarded brand, and from what I remember back then, most knife nuts liked the brand, or at least I had the impression that it was more respected.
Did something happen? I mean, did the quality of their products go downhill or did other brands get better with time? The same goes for Cold Steel, which I thought was highly regarded but it also looks like it's not what it used to be. On the other hand, BM, Spyderco and Kershaw draw the same respect as they did back then.
What changed?
