I read about cruiser's axe in Gary Paulsen's book, but I don't know anything about it.Were they designed for timber cruisers? Thank you for your help.

If I am not mistaken, the cruiser is a three quarter size axe, sometimes referred to as a boy axe. It's handle may be about two to two and a half feet. It's easier to carry than a full size axe but still big enough to swing two handed and actually get some work done. I've been using a Collins Hudson Bay style cruiser for the past thirty-five years for camping. It's a handy tool. Small enough to use for making kindling and big enough to split smaller logs.
