i tried searching and came up with alot but not the answers

sorry if this is a dumb question, but i am curious

where are the new 2011 Cold Steel Voyagers made?

what about CRKT Ripple, CRKT Eros, CRKT Razel SS7

thanks for your help

The Voyager used to be made in Japan, I think it still is.
The others are made in either Taiwan or China.

The Ripple and Eros are made in Taiwan. The Razel SS7 is made in China.

i believe the new voyagers (i dont know if they are out yet) are made in taiwan but i could be wrong.

Well, Cold Steel site shows the new Voyager blade as "Steel: Japanese AUS 8A Stainless w/ Stone Wash Finish", so one would assume Japanese manufacture, like the previous Voyager models.

Well, they may never actually materialize, so we may never know. :)

I purchased the SS7, the Ringed Razel and the mini folding Razel w/ Ram's Horn. The Chisel figure is a captivating design and I couldn't resist. Sharpening is another thing. The SS7 is a nightmare. However, it can be done and to a razor edge. Claims that they are out of the box razor sharp from CRKT is a load of "malarky". The steel is great though. The Chinese are killing us with their development of steels that compete with the US and Japanese steels that are in the 57 to 59 Rc range. CRKT suspiciously claims a hardness of 58 - 60 Rc for the 9Cr18MoV that these knives feature. However, I'm finding that the "hand sharpen meter" is around 58 consistently with all 3 models. I still love them. I can't wait to see how the edges hold up. As far as sharpening goes, they perform much like AUS8. This is probably good for workhorse tools they are meant to be, since such knives usually need sharpened more often. Great knives for the money that China is taking from us!

Where the steel was made has nothing to do with where the knife was assembled. I believe all AUS-8 steel is made in Japan. By no means are all knives containing AUS-8 blades "made" in Japan.

I can't be sure, but the Cold Steel AUS8A blades are made in Japan and the finished products are assembled in Taiwan.

the 2011 Voyagers are made in Taiwan. some AUS-8A knives from them are still made in Japan though.

I have found that many knives made in Taiwan are coming out fairly well but those stamped "China" are hit or miss in quality control sometimes.
