What cutting tool do you hope to *never* have to use...

It's funny, i was just thining recently about a couple of my most recent purchases, the Spyderco Rescue 93MM and Benchmade Rescue Hook.....

i bought both of these blades in order to be prepared for any unforseen accident that would require cutting a seatbelt or other cord/strap to free someone trapped or restrained.....

however, in the past few days, the Rescue's seen more duty as a folding bread knife than a rescue blade, first at the local Longhorn steakhouse, then tonight, cutting off a couple nice pieces of crusty French bread

however, i realized something, i actually hope to never have to *use* the Rescue Hook, either to extricate myself or someone else from a vehicle accident, the Hook is a knife i purchased hoping that i would *never* have to deploy it, if i had to use it, it would mean something has gone *seriously* wrong...

so, what cutting implements do you own that you hope you *never* have to use?, have you actually had to use them for their intended purposes....

y'know, come to think of it, the Rescue hook would make a nice pencil sharpener, nice curved blade, put a smooth round point on a pencil...

no, don't use it, gotta' keep that one sharp in case i *ever* need it.....

My Victorinox Classic.

If I ever have to use it, it means ... like a dummy, I've forgotten what I'm doing and left all my REAL KNIVES at home !!

Guys I hope I never have to free another person from a car wreck. I did plenty of that when I worked an ambulance for 4 years. We mostly used a pair of blunt shears to cut the seat belts. It would have been awsome to have had the Benchmade rescue hook back then. Guys please forgive me if this is off topic, but I have cut many live people out of wrecked or over turned cars/ trucks. "Wear your seat belts!" Have seen a few wrecks where a train hit a pick up truck and there was room to live, but the guys were not seat belted in. The guys were thrown out of the vehicle and yes very dead.
I would hate to loose a fellow formite to this type of accident. good luck and stay safe.

I hope to never use a Buck 503 as a steak knife again.

Last Sunday a friend and I went out to dinner and as I was cutting through my beautifully cooked, medium rare New York strip, the handle of my restaurant issue steak knife fell off.

My usual restaurant carry knife is a Kershaw Hawk, but it was a kinda spur of the moment dinner date, so I didn't have that. I had to use my beloved little maroon micarta Buck 503. The steak was about as thick as the length of the blade! Not an easy task.

Not trying to be sarcastic, but why didn't you just ask for another steak knife?

Even though I carry two folding knives that would be suitable for self defense, they're not what I'd reach for first. That would be the Spyderco SPOT I have strapped to my front backpack strap (to be replaced with my Swick whenever I get around to it). But I hope I never have to use it.

All blades are meant to be used. I collect or accumulate certain knives that I fancy, but ultimately they are designed and meant to be used. How well suited for the use is another matter. Personally, using a sword for real combat (mortal) would certainly consititue a use that I would not want to see develop in my life.

My Rescue 93mm as well:) I bought it specifically for keeping in my Maxpedition as a "just in case" tool. Yes, it does get used for cardboard occasionally, etc., but agreed, I hope I never have to use it in that "just in case" incident.

Scissors. Knives are just more satisfying. ;)

In all seriousness, I can't think of a blade I own that fits this description. I will echoe others in saying that I never want to feel like I need to use a knife I'm carrying for self-defense, because that means things have truely gone down hill. I will always resort to my own two fists or a good sized stick before even considering pulling out any knife I own on someone.

I hope I never have to use my Spyderco Matriarch. If I do, it means the situation has gone down the crapper, and one or more people (including me) are going to get seriously injured.

The cutting tool I hope I never have to use?

That would be a steak knife. Hopefully, all of my steaks will require nothing more than a butter knife.

I mean really: this restaurant tells me how wonderful their steak is, I hand over thirty bucks for the thing, they'd better not need to bring me a specially-sharp knife for it. When the waiter brings me a steak knife in preparation for the arrival of diner, that does not inspire my confidence.

The ones I keep in my truck for emergencies!! I have a Benchmade Rant and a TOPS CQTB Magnum in there for emergencies.

I spend alot of time in wilderness locations. Where I go the chainsaw usually comes along too. Chainsaws make life easy with firewood chores and the endless trees that fall down across roads and trails. When the firearm is not handy a chainsaw can be a life saver.:jerkit: A chainsaw can be defined as a powered sword.:p I hope that I never have to get blood on my chainsaw. If this happens it means two things may have occurred. 1) a chainsaw accident with my own blood all over the saw. 2) I had a bear attack and had to use the chainsaw for self defence. Having used chainsaws all my life its much more likely number 2 will come up, and I don't look forward to that day (or night).
