What cutting tools do you bring?

After so many years of buying and trading knives, I'm coming close to owning what I think are perfect outdoor tools. The only problem comes when I have to decide which ones to bring! Usually it's a weight issue, but even then it's tough. Here's some of my favorites:
Rinaldi Armageddon/Gambit SKS set
Jones Brothers JK-23/JK-29 set
Busse SH Battle Mistress
TOPS Laser Strike
Granfors Bruks Wildlife Hatchet
GB Mini Belt Hatchet
Sawvivor lightweight bucksaw
Gerber multi tool
SAK Hunter model (Always with me)
Being knife knuts and outdoorsmen, do you guys have the same problem? How do you choose? (I love car camping with my wife so I can bring them all!):D

It take's some thinking:). for a chopper /self-defense a Khukuri, Plus it comes with a smaller blade for the fine work. Next a Fall.F1 or S1. , then a Leatherman Super Tool.A SAK would be in the play, but I would add a needle nose vice-grip If I took it with me.then a Folding Saw with additional metal/bone cutting blade

Hiking/Backpacking alone or with a partner: Victorinox Outrider.
Hiking/backpacking with a group: Outrider + a kitchen knife.
Car camping: Outrider, kitchen knives, axe and/or saw.

I usually take my CRK Project II w/ its SOE sheath I had made for it. I asked for the accessory pouch on the front of the sheath to be made to hold a Leatherman Wave. Between those two, I have most of my bases covered. That being said, I usually add a CRK large sebenza and/or a hatchet or machette. It depends of how long I am leaving for and where I am going...

It is always really hard to choose. I have more knives than chances to go camping most of the time. I always take my SAK Rucksack, though now it will be the new SAK Trailmaster I just got. Other than that, it varies every time. My CS mini Khukuri is a favorite, as is my CS norse 'hawk. The CS Bushman has covered many miles with me as well. I want to get my SOG Northwest Ranger out a bit more as well as my CS Recon Tanto...

I have been able to handle everything MA nature has thrown at me with this combination:
Folder...small sebenza
Sheath knife..Kellum silversteel Puukko
Axe.. GB Scan. forest axe
Saw ..sawvivor with meat and wood blades

Most of my trips are raft floats so weight isn't a problem..:D

Hey Budman,

Please tell me more about your Kellum silversteel puuko! Does it have the single bevel that you lay flat on the stone when sharpening? Is it easy to sharpen? How well does it hold an edge? Thanks!

A small SAK like the pioneer or soldier is always worth the weight.

So are a small (4+"- Fixed blade and a folding saw.

After that if you need a big chopper you pick it out depending on the job and your skill, from machete, kukri, golok, hatchet or ax.

I never bring an ax or hatchet as I am all thumbs and would like to keep them.

Ben

First a SAK. Everything else depends on where I am and what I'm doing. I like to have a 5" blade with me because I find that the smallest size that can be conviently batoned to split wood into kindling. Which 5" blade is the real problem most of the time. On shorter trips, I might take my Livesay Air Assault cause I like it so much, but its very heavy. On longer trips where weight is a real issue, I might just take my ultra light Mora 2000, cause even at 1/16" thick, I find it splits wood perfectly well. My cutting tools are rounded out with a light folding saw, or I just rely on the saw on the SAK...

If I were going on a survival trek and not carrying my food/fuel/shelter with me, I would want a larger chopping-capable blade, but I haven't been on such a trip in 20+ years...
