Im looking to sharpen my spyderco military. not sure i want to keep the factory edge or make it a slicer? what degree do you sharpen your spyderco military?

Depends on what your typical uses are. I usually take my knives down to a 20 degree inclusive bevel with a 30 degree inclusive microbevel, and I've cut cardboard, ceiling tile, and opened cans with them just fine.

On a couple knives I wanted to be good slicers I've gone to about 15 degrees inclusive and I noticed that even if the actual edge wasn't as sharp as some other knives, they could still slice through things much better because of the lower angle, which was interesting.

Anything below 40 inclusive will be fine.

it really depends on how long you want the edge to last. 40* inclusive will last with a working edge a bit longer than the other suggestions, but it won't be "as sharp". Its relative to the tools you have available to sharpen with as well. I can get hair popping sharp at 30* inclusive. I've also run 30* with a 40* micro bevel. Similar results but the edge lasted longer. It's going to be a slicer no matter what if it's sharp, its blade geometry is designed that way.

The Military is a slicer, with narrow edge shoulders and a pointy point for good detail work. Spyderco tries to sharpen its knives from the factory at 15/15 (30). You could start at that angle and if the edge doesn't hold up for you, add a 20/20 (40) microbevel.
