What determines whether different models are named or given a model number?

Hopefully this question isn't too stupid...:o
i know there's models such as the CQC-7, 8, etc.
and there's also knives such as the roadhouse and the gentleman jim.
Is it just what ever fits or is there a different reason?
am i over thinking? (Most likely):D
thanks!

I think the 7 was the first production knife that Emerson made available to the public. Then it's a chronological order going up. For stuff like Gentleman Jim, Roadhouse, Horseman etc. Emerson has a description of what the knife is supposed to invoke. The Roadhouse is meant as an outlaw biker kind of knife, low like a harley, big and built like a brick house. Hence the name Roadhouse. The Gentleman Jim is meant to speak to a more sophisticated user, with its sleeker lines and thinner profile, it seems more at home in a suit rather than a leather jacket.

Go read the descriptions of each knife if you want to find out more.

I think that sums it all up pretty well. As you can see with the original numbered series, they come out in order of appearance...kind of like Glock. Other knives have been well described in the above -- they are simply verbal illustrations of the knives themselves. But like you, my question would be the 'why', in why did he number some, and name others. Plenty of BA names runners like the CQC 15, 16, etc.

But why the Horseman, and not 'Mini' CQC8?? Questions, questions. I like the mystery.

If you into the history of each given model, there are actually specific reasons.

here is one example. I'm crunched for time. but you can research the others yourself. The info is out there certain select circles.

oh and PS that story about the CQC-6 being the sixth in the series is not true. Emerson himselft has recently revealed it himself, that at the time that was a cover story for whom the knife was originally made for and named after. That being of Team 6.

It is confusing. I have a mini CQC-8, not a horseman....I guess they forgot to put "horseman" on the blades in 09'.....i was confused when i opened the package as i had ordered a horseman off Ebay lol.....at the time i thought it might be a chinese copy/knock-off...but its the real deal.

Would it make more sense to have all the different knives have the same name? Ernie probably names them whatever he wants at the time. Most folks that are engineers that design and build things have a specific idea in mind while designing and building.
