It is called the economy an early version of the standard.Original price was 25 now maybe 50 in nice shape nore with box. Also came in PE.

I thought it was called the Standard. It was Sal's attempt to compete with the knockoffs in price. If you search you should find some more info. I don't think they have been common in the stores since the early 90's.

rycen + Paul Davidson: You are both right! This is an early C05 model

The C05 Standard was a lower-cost model and its original name was Economy (reflects how the costs were lowered). First introduced in 1984.

Lower level of polishing, thinner scales, clip not screwed - formed directly out of the scale.

Thanks for the help guys!! So for $5 not too bad huh?? Its been used but is in great shape!! May send it back to Spyderco for a factory re-sharpen:)

My memory is that it was called Standard, and that the Economy part didn't get added on until Standard with the screwed on clip, and G-10 Standard, came out. It wouldn't be the first time my memory was wrong.

I also remember that the Worker, Mariner, and Standard were the first Spydercos I ever saw. It was either late '86 or early '87 and they were for sale in a shoe store in Paducah, KY.

@ Paul Davidson: Hi! I checked my sentences and I found in the Spyderco Story on Page 77: "Spyderso made it no secret that the Standard was a lower-cost model (its original name was the "Economy"), and its advertising reflected how the cost was lowered. This model was introduced in 1984 an has withstood the introduction of even lower priced FRN models, probably because it offers a blade almost identical to the podular Delica, but with a steel handle and tip-down carry."
