What Did You Hew Today?

I have been thinking a lot about a thread where forum members show the work that they do with human's first, and most important tool (my opinion), the AXE. Lets make it that at least one of these three tools has to be used--Axe, Hatchet, or Adze. Of course other tools (hopefully vintage) might also be necessary. Show the process along with the finished product, and the tools you used. The hewn product could range from a broadaxe hewn wilderness cabin to a nice pile of firewood, and everything in between. What do you think?

This sounds like an excellent idea, and if I cant wait to get some time to be able to get this going. Great idea!

I hewed some LVL today. Even man made boards are thick and thin. I hate it when joists don't set down tight on a beam!

I hewed these on an addition to a shed several years ago. I haven't done any hewing lately. I remember they were hard to do being Hemlock with a lot of knots. I used a D. R. Barton axe with a 12 inch blade. I mostly did it just to lighten the posts so I could handle them alone.

Nothing worse than hemlock knots except maybe stone. Hemlock is a notorious axe killer. I hope you came out unscathed.

Oh yeah I was slow due to being my first hewing attempt. Later I tried some spruce that was much easier. The axe came out unscathed too. It's at the cabin. I don't have a picture of it here at home although I have other broadaxes here.

Great idea for a thread btw. I hope to see and maybe contribute more on this.
